Question for those with experience shipping wheels
I have my T-S5s for sale right now (with RE71s still mounted), and even without bumping the thread relentlessly I still get a lot of interest. However – nobody local…
I’m moving soon and would prefer to not haul these wheels from one garage to the next if possible, so I have started to consider the option of shipping. It just seems like a major PITA. And expensive. Can someone help me understand the most hands off and cost effective way to ship these things? I don’t have the boxes they came in anymore, in fact I have no wheel boxes around at all. I was told I could just ship the wheels with the tires still on, I am assuming freight? But, I would also assume it would be cheaper to remove the tires and ship the wheels alone? I just have no experience with this, so any insight on what my most sensible options are would be very much appreciated. Thank you! |

I’ve shipped a few wheels. Always with tires still on. 1. Protect rim face with dish foam inserts from moving supplies. 2. Cut cardboard circles and put on both sides of wheels to protect. 3. Wrap with the cellophane moving wrap. All supplies are at Home Depot. Ship each wheel independently. Just get a quote for the heaviest wheel the multiply by 4 obviously. I used ups ground through my work. They have very good rates.

Question for those with experience shipping wheels
Shipping through a business will always be way cheaper like poster above said, especially a business with a freight terminal. If you can't do that even setting up a corporate account through ups, printing your own labels and dropping them at store locations will give you a small discount. Packaging wise, I like the posters above's idea.

You can also ship through greyhound bus service which is cheap. I shipped some 17"s with tires about 10 years ago and it only cost around 50 dollars. The buyer would just pick up the wheels from the nearest greyhound bus terminal. You would have to drop the wheels off to the one nearest to you.

It’s safer to ship the wheels with the tires mounted if you don’t have the original wheel boxes. You could buy boxes with similar dimensions and use bubble wrap, etc. to protect the wheels. However, this is how I always ship wheels with tires mounted:
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiret...jsp?techid=304 Another option is to buy boxes that are large enough to fit the wheels and tires but it’s not easy to find the right size box. |

If tires are off the rims, try going to local wheel shops for boxes. You may luck out. I shipped a set for about $50 per wheel, but I had double boxed the rims and used lots of peanuts. As was mentioned try using a business account for the best rates. Otherwise try shipnerd

shipping wheels/tires is easy, just can be time consuming to prep. its also a bit spendy and can kill the deal.
i've shipped a few sets and slicer's steps are good. i'd only add a few tips
carboard, foam, wheel, foam, cardboard, then all wrapped with packing tape or shrink wrap. as shown below:

What is hilarious is that, after all this, I ended up doing a local deal with a guy in ATL lol. So, got lucky and didn't need to ship... this time. God only knows how many sets of wheels I will buy and sell in my lifetime though, and now I will always have this thread to refer back to when shipping Thank you everyone who helped! |

For future reference, look into Busfreighter.com. They use Greyhound’s shipping service but rates are significantly cheaper as a third party service. I shipped a set of OEM seats across the country for about $170, everywhere else I checked was close to $400.
