i guess i'm one of the few unlucky ones on the forum then
early saturday morning canyon cruising ... there had been some debris, rock slide or construction leftover ... ran over a chunk of rock and popped a tire

no cell phone reception at all up there
thankfully i was with friends ...
friend drove me down, grabbed the 220m wheel and tire from my storage unit + a spare tire i had leftover, drove back up the mountain and swapped the wheel
drove to tire shop to mount the spare tire back on the 513m wheel

if you're going on a long roadtrip and you have the room, i'd say pack a spare wheel
you don't want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere

The space saver is an 18" wheel from an X5, with a 145/70-18 sized tire.

You can assemble your own, or Bimmerzone sells a kit.

That is what must seem to use. I have one. Need a lug wrench, Jack and a hub adapter for the bore. Hub adapter is plastic and cheap. Jack can be a BMW from a junkyard or a harbor freight scissor jack.

Just bought an e90 and have been slowly learning the ins/outs and quirks of the car.

So a little while ago I thought "where is the spare tire?"... so I opened the trunk and started poking around and found the weird little BMW reinflate set ...

... what exactly does this little thing do?

I would probably like to add a plug set, any recommendations?

Got a flat a few days ago, literally 5 mins away from my house, brand new tires, had to use the sealant kit which is obviously original to the car, never used before (2011 model). it was just bad luck. The kit worked very well and the tire is still inflated now. Bought x2 replacement sealant canisters from ECS. took 10 mins to get the car on the road again.

I also have an extra set of 220m's in the garage with used tires as a backup.

Q: Anyone know if the sealant causes problems with tpms?

Leaving downtown Los Angeles one day I had a nail go through LR sidewall and edge of tread. Closet America's Tire with 1 PSS in stock was in Glendale. Had to stop twice on the way to add air. Tire was less than 2 months old.

On my old 335d I had a spare set of F30 393 wheels with RFTs for road trips.

I put together one of the spare tire/wheel packages detailed here in ~2011 and of course haven't had a flat since.

As I recall, it's an X5 space saver wheel, a different size tire than that spare would be and a small centering ring. All in I think I have about $250 in it, it rides in the trunk all the time.

Turns out this wasn't bad luck - scum bags who fitted the new tires in Canada, before the car was shipped to me, destroyed the inner lip of the tire and never said anything. I know it was them because they filled it in with black silicone. The shop is called Kelvins in Saskatoon. Here's a pic of the tire - IMS got me home.
