I can't imagine someone would go through the trouble of rolling back the odometer (and have the skill set to do it) and roll it back to the wrong mileage by 1. I think I'd believe the dealer on this one and I'm very untrusting of them to the point I've been procrastinating on my own recalls. The increase in the gas may be some random fluctuation or something.

I just read through the entire post, and this does not sit well with me either. At the very least they took your vehicle out for a shakedown then rolled the mileage and added gas to cover their tracks, hoping you wouldn't notice. I would press hard for an explanation from them that is actually credible, not some made up garbage. Good luck, I hope you get a resolution to this soon.

if they didn't joy ride it, why did they put gas in? if they just 'test drove' it to check it out (why?) then why roll the mileage back and not just say this? |

Wait, in Ferris bueller when they rode in reverse the mileage rolled back but it was never stated whether you can recoup your used gas that way too

At 37,419 it shows 000.3 miles. Then at 37,420 it shows 104.8 miles. Impossible to drive 104.5 miles and only have the odometer go up by 1. Something must have occurred... Quote:
If this is in fact the case, it would've been better to round up by even 2 miles, rather than down by 1 and just say they drove it to make sure all was well. Don't believe thats the case here. Having the picture beforehand is incredibly helpful. Last edited by Ab28; 12-14-2018 at 01:10 PM.. |

Simple... on the test drive after working on the car the tech was hit by lightning while doing 88MPH. Brought the car back to the dealership a couple minutes before you first arrived and hid the car. They must have mixed up your two cars and given you the one that was hit by lightning at 88. Case closed.
For real- I'm incredibly curious to find out what happened. I'd be pretty upset, mostly because it's clear something is being hidden. Is there any tuners/coders that would be able to get you more info from the car's ECU?

I appreciate all chiming in, especially with the jokes lol. Some good ones but I'm stuck here. Can't decide which direction to tackle here.
Does anyone know of anyone friends or family that work for a BMW Dealership that can give me an explanation to what is going on? What is BMW correct after I went there yesterday to find out what happened? Is a reset of the computer by BMW correct in all this or they just bullshitting me? Thank you everyone |

Maybe I missed something, but what strikes me as most significant is the 104.5 mile bump on the trip odometer. THAT shows me they drove your car over 100 miles. I assume the miles on a trip odometer can't be programmed, only cleared back to 0.0. So, it appears they drove your car 100+ miles, calculated how many gallons of gas they needed to add based on miles traveled and average MPG on the DIC, added 7-8 gallons of gas and overshot it a little, then hooked it up and changed the odometer reading back to what they THOUGHT it was when you brought the car in. My question is why didn't they just ZERO out the trip odometer?
That's what happened.

If it was just the 1 mile difference in the odometer and the slight delta in the gas gauge (varies by temp, incline...), I probably wouldn't care much. But WTF is with the tripometer? How do you explain the 100+ mile increase?
