I said yes, paid the invoice and got them a few days later all the way from Russia via EMS. Good experience.
Ok thanks!

Loose no doubt. The groove you see is where the caps tabs should be snapped on, which they're not...

I was the first on the list according to Carbanh a month ago. So two weeks after ordering the plates I was told that it will take another 2-3 weeks, so I called yesterday and i was told it will take another 2-3 weeks. Cancelled order this morning and ordered aluminum covers from Russian Federation.

Ah geeze. Dissapointing. I've got them on order, and have the one time use bolts coming today, but I'll be going with the slonik ones since they arrived by the time I'm going to need them.

I'll have the carbahn plates plus bolts for sale some time next month if someone needs them.

Wonder why it takes so long to machine flat round washers?

Have no idea. The engineer responsible for that probably has other priorities. But to hear the same answer for the third time really pissed me off and ruined my last two track days of the season. I took everything apart like an idiot

How did I miss this?!

Not to thread jack but has anyone reached out to FCP to see if they can source an oem replacement without the entire vanos?

As the separate OEM caps isn't available from BMW and anywhere else as it seems I'd be surpriced if FCP can source them. Guess the Vanos comes in one piece from BMW subcontractor which in turn get the caps from someone who can't sell them to anybody else etc...

15 spots filled and paid for on my group/bulk buy. Thanks to everyone who made this happen so quickly. I will be communicating via email to the emails provided to me, so please keep an eye on your inbox.

Currently, i think they are scheduled for production either (last friday) or monday. Takes 5-7 days for all to be complete and hopefully shipping by early next week. I'll keep everyone posted. From there once they arrive to me I will be separating and shipping individually from my shop. Stay tuned!

Also, they have a shoulder that seats fully on the head surface and therefore there is nothing to stretch. The one-time-use part of these is the rubber seal, which will likely not seal at all when being removed after years of heat cycles. If removed after only a short time they will be fine and will reseal properly.
I reused the vanos bolts, was replacing all vanos units(didn`t even know the bolts need to be replaced). Drove like 2k km, everything is fine,
but now i have a little worries about it. I did replace every peace needs to be replaced, except this fkn bolts man..

I would not worry too much on that, as most bolts of that size can be retorqued 2 or 3 times before they lose their elasticity permanently. Also, these are not in a high-temp and high-stress location like rod bolts which really should never be reused. The combination of heat cycling and high initial torque values, certainly on the OEM bolts, could lead to a lack of clamping force on any second try. The VANOS bolts see heat but little or no stress.

If you get back in there then maybe change them, but otherwise I would not lose sleep over it. If they have lasted 2000 miles they will be fine.

If anyone wants a set as part of the group buy, IceCreamFoo has decided to go a different route. So there is one set available. Please PM him or me, so we can get you on the list.

Thanks

Alex

Just for anyone who may be freaking out about this, here's a photo I took while doing my valve covers, I didn't realize this was an issue at the time, so I didn't even check to see if they were cracked/brittle. FWIW my car has 166k on it. So maybe climate has something to do with it? My car has always been a southeast car, so no frigid temps. That's all I can think of.

Can't tell from the pic but looks like they're spun? Can't see the spring pins in the view holes, maybe you can confirm. My car has been a Florida car it's entire life and all four are dunzo. Just got my covers yesterday so hopefully they can hang on til this weekend.

Maybe, I'm not really sure what they're supposed to look like. I don't think I'll have my covers in time for my next tt race but hopefully they hang on.

They look like this. They should hang on; mine were cracked and still pretty tight, but purely conjecture on my part.

Yeah totally. I can play with them a little later and get some pics with them side by side with the OEM covers.

I will say these are probably the perfect solution if you wanna pay the price after taking a quick look and sizing them up - top quality.
