You have to see which audio system you have. (HIFI, Individual, L7 etc) Then you need to see which amp part number you have. You have to pull the amp from the car and see what the part number is - it is on the label. There's a few amps that will be compatible. They changed the plugs a few times so you may need to rewire and/or code the amp to work if you get one from a different model year.
In my case I have an individual (EPS) amp... Mine is an early version so newer individual amps are not plug and play - they have completely different plugs and wiring. I found out the hard way paying $2k for a new amp from BMW and finding out it doesn't work on my car without retrofit wiring and coding. I found a compatible used amp on ebay and it was plug and play. Be aware that many used amps are not completely functional even if they are advertised as being tested. That is the drawback with used parts.

There are the guys at Logic7 Repair (BavLogic) that will fix your EPS amp for around 400$ IIRC.
The outcome was they swapped out my amp for another EPS unit once we made sure we had the right part number and wiring was 1:1. |

FYI..I did crack open my amp and tried to fix it but no luck after messing around with it for weeks.
There are some audio/amplifier repair shops on YouTube that shared videos on what to look for but it was above my head so I paid to get it repaired. Would be great to have a repair guide/DIY simply out of curiosity but I didn't find one. |
