Removed spoiler, paint not smooth - how to fix?

I just joined the M3 family a couple of months ago (bought from a forum member actually), and I’m getting around to installing a new spoiler. After removing the old one, I realized the trunk lid paint is not smooth underneath - I’m guessing the trunk lid was repainted without removing the old spoiler?

Anyway, the footprint of the carbon spoiler I bought is slightly different, so about 4” shows on each side. How can I fix this? I’m betting the answer is wet sanding or repainting, but hoping repaint is not the only option because that turns my spoiler project into something much costlier.

Thank you!

I’ll add that it appears that the surrounding area is visibly thicker clear coat/paint so that is what supports my theory that it was repainted. The “ring” you see is like a sunken moat

I see this as just dirt or contamination on the paint. Clay bar and use a polish like Chemical Guys VSS (or something similar). Then wax or seal. I really feel like that could work if that is dirt.
