The F8X does nothing for me

Not trying to hate but every time i hear an F8X go by me I just don't feel the same excitement that I get when another E9X goes by me. I mean its a good looking car, faster than the E9x, has better tech, etc.. but that exhaust sound is just hideous.

The only new car I've driven is the M2 and M5. M2 was ok but I would not give up my M3 for it. The M5 was a beast! That was a lot of fun to drive but it would just get me in trouble.
The Grill on the G8X prevents me from ever getting into one

The looks of an f8x is definetly let down by the sound of the motor sadly.

Been thinking about picking up a F80 6spd when the used car market calms down but I’ve heard so many differing opinions on them. But yes the E9x is just something different compared to everything on the market.

i thoroughly enjoyed my f80. doesn't have the song of a V8, but definitely has the e9x beat on low-end torque.

I can comment as an owner of an E46 M3, then F80 M3 and now E90 M3.

The F platform cars are great daily drivers. Tons of features I never had in my E46....heads up display, rear camera, heated front and rear seats, tons of torque, etc. My biggest gripe with the F80 was sound. It just sounded like most other turbo'd cars and that detracted a little bit for me. The E46 had rasp and sounded like a buzz saw and I loved it because it had character.

I recently sold my F80 M3 to get a E90 M3 as it's a wish list car for me. I always wanted to own a V8 car and this is my first. The E90 obviously sounds better stock V8 vs twin turbo I6. Both are supremely capable cars and have great features.

I wouldn't say the F80 "did nothing for me" but I also realized I want "less" in a car. Less features and displays and just want something that lets me focus on driving fun, while being able to take my two kids with me (hence buying an E90). We shall see how reliability hold up for a used car vs a new car.

I have f85 x5m and just sold my e92 m3 but honestly when I had them both I preferred the e92! It had less tech, less power by almost half but it was so much more fun to drive! Sounded blissfully with my Eisenmann race, looked so aggressive and pretty and people always turned their heads... x5m is awesome but doesn’t get the same attention, it’s just bit the same!

f8x is a different animal. yes sounds like crap but they are extremely capable. one of my favorite cars i've owned to-date.

I recently purchased my e92- i low key hate it, but was pleasantly surprised of how capable it was with my set up on the track.

Harrop stage 2 en route- hoping that'll cure my hatred a bit lol

I do like the F8x and the new G8x platforms and they have lots of potential, but there is something better being a V8 and much better if you’re S/C V8 with that high revving 4.0.

Every M3 except for the E30M is trash - just saying.

F80 benefits from a MPE or straight pipe and tune. A stock F80M CS also sounds a good bit better than a stock base/ZCP as well IMO.

Every M3 is trash except for the one made in the early 90's? What the hell kind of comment is this? Lol

Lol - sarcasm as is in everybody trashes the M3 generations that they don't own

The F80 is one of best all around cars made - the E9x is sublime. IMO the first 5 gens are all

withholding my opinion on 6th Gen for now

well said and completely agree. Had e46, e92 and f80; as I mentioned on another post, there is no comparison to the feel, w/o speed involved in the equation, of the NA s54 and s65 engines. If we involved speed, I had the pleasure of driving the e92 GTS using the 4.4L; incredible drive of an e92 chassis; however, the speed/sound/power beyond a F8x.

These 2 are mine. I take the e92 out for my Sunday drives; my wife takes the Porsche c2s and f80 because it looks cool and 'goes fast'

I love my F80 from the engine to the exhaust sound to the way it can break free at WOT. I also like my E90. They are just different cars.

Also, I think a lot of people are getting the wrong idea. The f80 is more than capable, and it has all its bells and whistles that a newer car would come with but I think it's just lacking character. Overall a beautiful looking machine!

Deep down regardless of the low end torque bump, power, etc… Somehow losing 2 cylinders just feels like a downgrade. I just can't do it.

The only 6 cylinder I'd buy is an old school (E23 M6, E34 M5 or even E46 M3).

I think history will be kinder to the f8X. It's relatively reliable, it revs pretty good for a turbo, can be had with MT and DCT, has torque, looks good, practical, chassis feels solid, not super big or small, lightweight relative to similar sized cars, can beat on it and it manages heat pretty well, and pretty much has all the tech you would want. What tech is it missing? Gesture control? Who cares.

Yeah it doesn't sound great, and it lacks some character, but by 2030 people are going to think it has character coming out of each exhaust pipe.

I keep trying to like the F8x; the ludicrous speed it makes accessible is so tempting. I actually test drove one this morning, and came back to the same conclusion I have after my last two drives. Interestingly, my bolt on E92 feels roughly as fast as the base F80, just missing the low end punch. The car is nice (base interior materials do feel cheaper though, extended/full leather is a different story), it goes fast, handles well. But it just never feels exciting to me. My 958.1 Cayenne Turbo feels more fun/exciting to drive, purely because of the stupidity of a 5000 lb fatty that will hustle.

I think I'll build out my E92 into my ultimate E92, keeping it NA. Maybe I'll do something stupid like a stroker. But in a few years, I can see picking up an F90 or 991.1 Turbo for stupid speed.
