I was thinking since my subframe is pretty rusty in some spots it might be worth powdercoating. I was originially gonna go POR 15, but curious if anyone has experience with powdercoat on subframes? Worth the cost?

Does your subframe end up in people's view a lot? Asking for a friend.

When I redid the subframe and all the suspension bushings on the E36M3, I just sanded any bare spots to clean them, lightly scuffed the good paint to promote adhesion, and then rattle canned it with black enamel.

I get that! But I got some quotes to blast and coat the subframe. Looks like around 125-150. I think I'll go that route over freezing my ass off and trying to do POR 15 lol

If it were me I'd spend my money elsewhere but I don't know if that's what you were asking. I'd rattle can it for $15 first and see if you're satisfied. If not take it to the PC

Well that was basically what I was going to do. But it's been freezing here in KC and I think an extra 50 for powder coat and not being cold sounds better lol!

Hankook RS4, I got about 20-25 heat cycles in them. I should've counted better. It was used in 4 events; 1 event had morning and afternoon open pit sessions. The grip has dropped a good amount but still plenty of tread.

I'm debating if I should replace the tires or not.

On one hand, I'm not competitively racing and this would economically be better to keep hot lapping with a slower pace.

The other hand, I have a fresh set of 2019 RE71R sitting in the garage...haha.

Pic for reference.

Agreed. RE-71R

4 events is fine. if they don't grip, it does not matter if they are corded or not.

Unless you have something else to try besides going fast. Also, toward the end the wear is not linear. You may find yourself on the cords quicker than you anticipated.

I usually chunk them around 30 heat cycles even if not much thread depth is gone. That's a great time to sell them for someone who will do only street use, at an interesting price instead of doing 1 more day

You sure they were actually falling off? I kinda don’t believe that after 4 days on RS4. Also, 20-25 heat cycles or sessions?

Even when they heat cycle out they are only like a second slower. Just have to beat the heat into them.

They certainly feel slower. I was trying to beat on them at Laguna pretty hard and they were just slippery than expected.

I was under the impression 1 heat cycle is operating temp back to ambient temperature. If that is the correct definition, a session = heat cycle for my use case and it would be accurately 20-25 heat cycles.

The pic shows a little chunking on the left inner tread but I'm not sure how relevant that is to rubber softness for grip.

Send it and run those to the cords. Why would you replace a track tire with so much tread left? Unless you're going to sticker-up with some A7s for TT, just use up what you have. Driving on an older tire with some heat cycles will be a good exercise at managing traction.

If you're not competing, why bother getting rid of them? Driving on heat cycled out tires (which again I don't think an RS4 is heat cycled out after only 25 heat cycles) is good practice. Doesn't matter if you're a second or two off your PB in an HPDE.

Use em till they cord!

.

There are other reasons they could feel slippery (track condition, temperature, tire temp if you were beating on them, etc.). I would run them again. The RE71R isn’t even that much faster. Seems like a waste of money to toss the RS4 already and buy them instead.

Tires generally aren’t cooling completely between every session. The term “heat cycle” just gets used as if all heat cycles are the same.
