Great work! This will be useful for my GF's car, her E92's grab handle is peeling badly and I even tried removing it to no avail.

Tried this with Goo Gone.

When applying with a Qtip, the Goo Gone almost immediately evaporates. After a couple coats, bubbles/blister begin to appear. When removing, the plastic beneath turns white and can't seem to get it off. Think I may have damaged the plastic. Either need to respray with plasti-dip (or something similar). Or get some matte black wrap. Have a roll of 3M CF I was going to do the steering wheel with.

Not sure how you removed the rubberized compound with a metal screwdriver and came out with such a nice finish.

I am also going to do this, eventually. My M3 is also a 2008, so it's not pretty at this point. My window/mirror controls are also showing wear, so I'm thinking of replacing that part (it's a little over 100 bucks last I looked) at the same time I rid the handle of the peeling soft-touch film.

For those experiencing whitening of schwarz plastic, 22PLE's VR1 plastic and trim restorer is good stuff. It's one of the few things I have used that brings the shadowline exterior trim back to life. Though it is rather expensive.

You can't unseen this DIY Video.

There is no replacement door handle p/n since the only option is to get a new door panel. Easy to find one used, if you have a black leather interior.

Best bet is to remove the black matte coating with alcohol or acetone (nail polish remover) yourself. Then take it to a tint/vinyl shop and have it wrapped with matte black vinyl. If it wears, get it rewrapped.

The same thing will happen to your steering wheel trim. Best option is to wrap it in alcantara, leather, or carbon fiber...problem eliminated.

Your A/C control panel will also get nasty. Easy to replace the panel with the $100 OEM part.

Trim your nails and avoid using sharp metal tools in your interior...to avoid this nightmare.

Cheers

Just wanted to put this out there… you do NOT have to get a whole new door panel. You can replace the leather armrest piece only for about $260 if you really wanted.

Part number for the drivers side is:
