Startup Noise

Lately I noticed my car makes a clank for about a second on the initial startup. Exact same noise that I hear after an oil change. I only drive my car on the weekends. Often it sits couple weeks between drives. It never used to make the clank even after winter storage, so anyone know why it is doing it now? Now that the weather has gotten warmer, I've been driving the car every weekend. On the last two start I heard the noise.

I understand the noise is caused by low oil pressure in the belt tensioner and vano, like after an oil change? Is there something starting to wear out that I should replace or this is still consider "normal"?

I'll be following this thread for sure. I know EXACTLY what noise you're talking about because my car does the same thing. I want to know what this is as well.

my first e90 m3 made this noise on startup after sitting overnight. I had purchased the chain tensioners that install on each side of the engine, but never got a chance to install before the car was totalled.

my current e90 m3 does not make this noise.

I'm glad that this was mentioned. I was considering this as a potential issue a while back, but I never got around to doing it and completely forgot. I will look into this more. Is there any article on changing these? I believe they're relatively simply from what I recall.

For cars that are not driven daily, perfectly normal. Oil pressure building up in the VANOS. The oils drains out from sitting so long. Mine does it only if I haven't driven it in a week or so. So many of these cars are NOT daily drivers so it makes it sound like a common problem...haha

That's what it kept coming up when I searched. But one thing that I'm curious is why/what caused my car only recently started making the noise. I only daily my car the first year I got it, which is 4 years ago now. In the winter months my car will sit several weeks between starts.
