Blackstone

I got my first oil analysis back from Blackstone Labs today. This was prior to my oil change so I'll be sure to back it up with another of my own about 1000 miles from now.

Maintenance

Shipments arrived! Even though I have receipts from the PO performing these exact items I did today, I wanted peace of mind knowing that it was fresh BMW OEM fluids. And from the looks of what came out of the rear diff, it either wasn't done or it wasn't done properly.

Maintenance Cont.

Here's the rear diff drain and fill plugs, and a fluid sample from within. Which are required (at least in my book) when performing a service. The gasket are built into the plug. One was half missing. Surprised it didn't leak 🤷🏻*♂️

Maintenance

The only fluid left untouched. That is until this afternoon. Was surprised BMW doesn't have a branded fluid for the power steering system but I confirmed with my buddy who is a BMW service advisor that this is what the dealer uses.

Performed a power steering flush today. Sent terrible what came out but none the less it's new. My obsession is satisfied at this point with maintenance. I'll wait until I hear back from black stone with a second and third oil analysis before making my decision on RB. Here's a picture of the car in the shop and another around 6:30am arriving to work.

You're really bringing this car back to life - nice work.

In all honesty, a BSL oil analysis isn't going to necessarily tell you much in regards to RBs. It certainly doesn't hurt but it wasn't enough to set my mind at ease.

I would replace the RBs right away if you're even slightly thinking about it - that's what I did. Just think of it as an insurance policy.

Yes, Blackstone will not give you any indication of RB wear on a late model e90 m3. If you plan to keep long term, get them done.

From what I've read, it's only 2011+ that has a different material makeup that won't show excessive wear. I just don't know how long I'll have this car and a $3000 investment just isn't in the cards right this second.

On another note, I've been getting a check engine light upon startup on hotter days (65+ degrees F). The code is P0456. EVAP system small leak. I've already ordered a new fuel cap to try. The code easily clears and doesn't return until the next hot day upon startup after sitting. I've also noticed that the car DOES NOT LIKE having fuel pumped into her with the car running (yes, I understand it isn't recommended anyway) it'll stumble and stall. Also, it won't take anywhere near what it's supposed to in fuel without clicking the pump. The reason for me saying this is I believe this to be my issue. A vent valve related issue causing the CEL.

If anyone's had this issue before what was your fix? The car supposedly had its fuel tank vent valve already replaced recently. I know those are on the list of common issues with these cars so we'll see what happens after the new OEM fuel cap.

Now, as one can tell I'm not one to really modify much of anything on my cars lately, especially the lighting. I felt this was necessary though.

Here's my ECS Tuning 5000k LED angle eyes. I coded them to full brightness. I think they look great, not sure why BMW didn't include them with the LCI. I think they look pretty legit and factory.
