M3Post COVID-19 Sim Racing Thread

If anyone is interested, maybe we can use this thread to organize sim races. During this outbreak, sim racing is a much better alternative bc we will not be putting ourselves at risk, and potentially spreading the virus and using up medical resources. 👌👌

I’m poor, so I only have Assetto Corsa and rFactor 2 on the PC.

Crossposting so we can try to get a bigger group. Mods, please remove link if not allowed.

If you can plug in an xbox controller to play either of those I'm in! That is about as high tech as I have gotten so far.

I had actually decided to get a rig right before all this started. Have no idea what I'm looking for yet. Any recommendations or suggestions on good resources to look into to try to start figuring this stuff out?

I play Project Cars 2 with a few friends, game physics aren't that good but multi-player with friends is easier.

I agree, complicated for no reason and a huge money grab, everything you need to pay extra for. I think subscription games should pretty much include everything, but they nickel and dime with a subscription and charge extra for cars and tracks.

Not worth it for me, as I only play a few hours a month if I am lucky and might not touch it months at a time.

I've got nearly the same setup minus the movement, which I would love to have but don't want to spend the money.

I bought a cheap $800 pre-built off amazon with a gtx 1080, new fanatec pedals with load cell brake, and from Craigslist: a used oculus rift, a cheap gt omega seat with pedal/wheel mount, and a used thrustmaster TC-PC Racer ferrari wheel.

I used recommended settings for the oculus with gtx 1080, that I found on the interwebs. It works great in iracing and was overall relatively cheap. Down track view leaves much clarity to be desired, though.

I don't really use it, but mounting the OEM M3 seat there was the highpoint, it feels wonderful. And the M3 GT2 steering wheel of course

Even with the movement it is almost impossible to not fly off the track in iRacing, it is the most annoying thing in the world. I agree with dogbone comments

If I find a game with physics that are remotely like the real world then maybe it will be more useful. Meanwhile it's more of an entertaining distraction

Much appreciated - will probably try to go VR. Starting off with nothing so have much to learn about all this.

Do you put plastic down on your gaming rig seat to protect the speed cloth??? That's hardcore

haha no, because this is the second set of cloth seats I have! These go in the E90

The cloth is protecting the Oculus Rift S from sunlight

Also, I'm very disappointed in the resolution for the Oculus Rift S... it should be much higher

Think I'm going to borrow the seat out of my '63 GMC for my set up. Don't be jealous. I call it speed vinyl.

Poor resolution - maybe consider it good wet racing practice?

+1 for speed vinyl. All you got to do in that situation is take the water hose to it.

I call BS. Sunlight? On the east coast in winter? Not likely.

I'll be joining the sim ranks - have a simple little setup on the way to help keep me entertained during all this down time. A thrustmaster tx or tmx something like that - can bounce back and forth between the xbox & pc (hopefully it's that easy).
