Bugatti markets Carbon champagne to celebrate 110th anniversary

A unique blend has been created by the champagne specialists at Carbon to celebrate 110 years of Bugatti

Tradition dictates that, following the launch of any fantastically priced and lunatically powered hypercar, the next thing said high-end manufacturer does is sign a tie-in deal with an equally deluxe watch brand.

From here, the silks are pulled from a limited-edition chronograph with a six-figure price tag and sub-500-unit production run, one that’s often made in a hermetically-sealed chamber so that the intricate hands – often featuring fibres from the corresponding hypercar’s bodyshell – will be accurate to within an eighth of a millisecond.

A carbon-fibre display case is then provided ‘for free’ to protect the featherweight and individually stamped casing from being damaged during its bi-annual sojourns out of the sock drawer. It’s a life cycle we’re all familiar with.

Bugatti, though, has decided to take a different approach with its latest partnership. In a break with tradition – somewhat ironic given how heavily the new Divo was inspired by the company’s 1929 Targa Floria winner – CEO Stephan Winkelmann has just signed a deal with Grand Est neighbour and champagne specialists Carbon to commemorate Bugatti’s 110th anniversary next year.


To mark the occasion, Carbon has unveiled a brand-new vintage – ƎB.01 – that combines 90 per cent Chardonnay and 10 per cent Pinot Noir. The bespoke blend dates back to grapes from 2002, owing to “the perfect weather conditions for good ripeness and flavour concentration” in the region that year, apparently.

No official price has been revealed for ƎB.01 yet, but expect it to be ruinous. There is also no official word on whether this new Bugatti-Carbon merger will inspire a new limited-edition watch down the line.

By the way, if the name ‘Carbon’ sounds strangely familiar, that might be because the French company signed a deal with Formula 1 in 2017 to become the series’ official supplier. Since then, each podium celebration has featured three $3,000 magnum bottles with gold, silver and bronze labels respectively for the 1st-, 2nd– and 3rd-placed drivers.

Every Carbon bottle is dressed in a very thin layer of carbon fibre, and takes a week to prepare at the company’s main facility in Champagne.
