Smog - O2 sensor monitor Question

I'm having trouble getting the O2 sensor monitor ready for smog. All other monitors are ready... My car is fully stock and I did the drive cycle several times and drove ~300 miles with no luck

I then replaced all 4 sensors and have done the drive cycles 3 more times over the course of 120 miles this week. I ever tried adding 1in spark plugs spacers to the sensors and it's still not ready.

I'm considering clearing codes or resetting adaptations since I swapped in the new O2 sensors but I'm scared I'll end up just being in the same situation but the other monitors might not set.

Any suggestions?

Decided to clear adaptations with the new O2 sensors and cleared DME codes, gonna try to do a perfect drive cycle tonight when roads are empty.

Fingers crossed!!

Do a forum search for drive cycle and follow it. It's a bastard but does work. If you have a generic reader with live data you'll see it go ready when it's ready

Yeah I've done 11 drive cycles to a tee. I'm so frustrated, driven 500 total miles now just doing these tests over and over along with 55mph cruises on the hwy.

Replaced all O2 sensors, everything is checking out except these two arbitrary tests on downstream sensors.

"manufacture defined test" is the only not completed test for the sensors.

When I reset mine, I didn't have to do anything special, I just drove the car about 80 miles.

Saw some threads stating the TAs can cause an issue with the 55mph O2 sensor monitor testing as you'll never get perfect throttle inputs which can stop the test.

Ordered 2 OEM TAs from FCP Euro just to be safe, hoping those will solve the issue.

I've never had a car take more than 2 drive cycles or ~150 miles.

I've done the drive cycle 2 more times, another 80 miles.

Now every O2 / Cat monitor test is passing but O2 is still not ready when checking.

Here are the rest results. Very confused, this seems to confirm that the O2 sensors aren't turned off in my tune - all tests passed but the O2 monitor is still not ready

How do you know the tune isn't causing this?

Previous owner smogged car with this tune last year. Also, the tests are showing "pass" but the actual monitor isn't coming ready. In the past with tunes that disable rear O2s, these specific O2 sensor $01-$87 tests will never show "passed".

Car is fully stock with all 4 cats and brand new O2 sensors, replacing TAs today as I've seen a few cases where monitors never show up as ready due to large throttle oscillations during the 55mph highway tests.

I used the torque app to monitor and it said current drive cycle incomplete, but under emission readiness DTCs everything complete.

Yeah, you probably haven't cleared codes and are Smog ready. Passing all codes on a normal drive is very uncommon, a drive cycle is a specific set of criteria (idle for ~3min with AC/defroster on, drive at 20-30 for ~5min w/o exceeding 3k RPM then ~10-15min at 55mph w/o exceeding 3k RPM, then coasting to 20mph and idling again) - often takes a few cycles to get all monitors ready... fun stuff!

I replaced TAs today and drove another drive cycle and everything but O2 monitor is ready - does anyone know if dead cats will cause your O2 monitor to not turn on? I have no CELs after ~600 miles of driving (mostly just drive cycles over and over)

Ordered a new tune as I'm putting pulleys, intake and X-Pipes on the car - last resort I'm hoping a stock stg1 tune with my cats on will get all readiness monitors on quicker. I'm quite frustrated :

FINALLY PASSED! Stock tune and 960 miles of drive cycles later my O2 sensor monitor is ready.

Also... Sneaky move, I wanted an OEM look and smoothed out the Macht Schnell logo on my intake and passed visual with their Stg2 intake.

The other day after loading back to the stock tune, I drove down the freeway staying at 60mph for at least 15 minutes, got off the freeway, and headed back home, again on the freeway driving at 60mph. Once home I checked readiness monitors and all monitors were complete. I never even attempted to try doing the drive cycle. I’ve always heard to just drive up and down the freeway. I’m running the Karbonius intake plenum and the guy never said anything or asked about it.

Yeah I wish mine was that easy with the stock tune but it was MUCH faster than any of the aftermarket "stg1" tunes that I tried with. I probably did 15 drive cycles and 800 miles with the tunes and stock cats with no luck and 3-4 cycles with a stock tune/cats got the job done in ~60 miles.

Also had MS pulleys installed but I was fairly confident the smog guy wouldn't notice. Haha he was actually a tech at BMW of Irvine in the past which is likely why he asked if my intake was stock... To which I responded "dunno, was on the car when I bought it" haha.

Finally time to get my stage 2 tune and X-Pipe installed - stoked to try the E85 Stage 2 tune, seems like that's the closest we can get to 400whp & 300wtq (my other car is an F80 so this car has felt pretty pig-ish so far).

Trying my best to stay away from a S/C'er since the reason I bought this car was for the NA revs and reliability.

I wish these things didn't have logos. I'm not sure what I'll do about my plenum.
