Spare Tire & Mobility Kits
While we are all out looking for the latest deal. It may not be a bad idea to looking into spare tires and other safe guards in case of a flat tire. I had the misfortune of being roughly 30 miles from home headed towards the mountains in Travelers Rest, SC. When I heard this loud thump from the back of the car and I knew it was something bad. I stopped and sure enough a chunk of metal is in the back tire.
Now I had no spare tire in the car or really any tools. However, I had the ability to get about 2 miles down the road to a service station and of course all the tire shops in this rural area were closed. I did remember that I keep a spare tire in my 335i which came from a BMW 5 series. The tire is a Continental 135/90/17 that I got off ebay. I had my wife bring it to me and surprisingly it worked. It fit over the huge brake discs and calipers and I was able to safely make it back home. Of course, Discount Tire where I bought the tires from didn't have another tire on hand and advised for me to junk that one. I did not buy the warranty but they comped me pretty well (MP4S) for only $100.

Yeah, Tpms alerted me about 5 minutes after the puncture. At that point I was a mile or so from a service station. The spare fit on the rear. I need to double check if it can fit the fronts where the discs are I presume are larger.

Yeah I think they didn't want the liability. It tore a decent gash pulling out the metal. I'm comfortable with a new tire for $100.

I had a double blow-out (long trip, rolled the dice with tread), TMPS activated instantly.
I've debated the idea of a spare however opted for AAA Premium tow membership which covers me 200 miles 1x, 100 mile 4x. https://cluballiance.aaa.com/membership/plans |

Tire Rack gave a free warranty so when this happened to one of my virtually new PS4S tires they sent out a new replacement immediately. I just sent them two pictures- one of the damaged area the other of the manufactures codes.

Ok. So I got the new rear tire on and tried putting that donut on the front tire and unfortunately it does not work. The brakes are about an inch too large for the 135/90/17 spare tire. I may look into an 18 inch spare and see if that works.
