I didn't see the message above and probably late now but maybe good info for others. The pin in those plastic clips on the trim pieces are removed by pushing it all the way through. You can drive it through with a blunt nail or a small hex key (what I used). good luck.

I just stated this today…have removed the diff already, next is to do the prep to remove the subframe.
Stay tuned…sound like I need to remove the brakes in order to disconnect the brake cable. Can someone confirm this?

Have everything off…
Any tips on disconnecting the brake cable from the hub/carrier?

Then disconnect the cable housing from the backing plate. Finally disconnect the cable end ferule, and then you can pull the cable free.

Thanks, with some trial and error got it to disconnect yesterday… Must say, the E9x subframe is a pain (2x heavier) compared to the F8x. Will refurbish with all new solid bushings and spl links this week…then install next weekend

It can, but they mention needing to completely drop the subframe to do so versus the easier to pop in poly type. i've seen it mentioned that you DON'T need to fully drop the subframe to press in solid, but I don't know for sure. I've only used this tool once, with poly bushes on an e82 where I only needed to undo suspension and drop the subframe like 6 inches (didn't even disconnect brake/erake lines).

Thanks for this. I'm about to tackle this.
Any disadvantage with leaving the diff and axle in place and dropping the subframe with them attached? |

Just reading this in 2023 and it was pure car porn! I really appreciated the write up as well as the before and after pics. The cleaning is mandatory IMO. Glad it produced that +10mph for ya!

If I were to do it again, I would try it with the diff attached.
