Well of course this thread is now a pissing contest between big brother and little brother. You paid less for your car. You got six-pots. We got one-pots. The savings was found by BMW in the materials. That, and it looks like they tried to save some money by deleting whatever material was supposed to cover the gap at the top of the headlights....

I'm trolling because I'm giving my opinion that the 1'er is a very ugly car? (an opinion most BMW owners, sans 1 series owners, agree with)

Would you be doing the same by insulting the e90/92? So it looks like we're of the same ilk.

The face of the 1er reminds me of that South Park episode where Butters parents keep yelling at him to get that look off his face....

You're trolling because you repeatedly make derogatory marks regarding the 1 series. Looks are subjective, of course, but the interior is closely matched to the 3 series. Some materials are slightly different, but they're mostly the same overall, sans design, and each has their pluses and minuses.

I'm actually left wondering if you have any first hand experience, ergo, the trolling comment. I don't see you touting the areas of opportunity for other models...

Umm, derogatory? Have you read what that pultzer prize winning author wrote about the car? I think I'm being kind.

Looks are subjective, but it's a common opinion that the car is ugly. Also the interiors aren't the same, the dash of the 1'er has some serious goofs (the trim not extending 3 more inches...).

It's been established that the 1er's interior is more low-rent than the 3er. That's a truth that's well-documented even in your "true enthusiast forum." What did you expect? Shouldn't a true enthusiast care more about the brakes, engine, suspension, and diff? Who cares if it's ugly or if BMW forgot to finish building it?

You bought the entry-level BMW that was over-hyped and over-marketed. I was in the queue to get one when they released the weight. I stepped out of the line and took my deposit back. It's shameful the way they hyped it up to be a second-coming of the 2002 and then it tips the scales not even 200 less than the 3er? C'mon don't tell me you're not pissed about that.... Fact is, BMW didn't have to make a stellar interior on that car, and they knew that. In the end, BMW is a business too.

it's been established that the interior's are almost identical

it's also been established that they accomplished most of what they intended, the 1's feel very very different from the 3's, all in a good way

drive one, then the other at a dealer, they feel very different, that's the reason I bought a 135 instead of a 335 or m3. I was able to test drive all 3 back to back, I bought the 135i, it just felt better

of course look at the cars I've owned, I prefer smaller cars that are more driver oriented

Well I'm glad we were able to find a 1er proponent who doesn't resort to feces flinging at the slightest hint that the 135 isn't perfect. I did drive them back to back when I finally got my 335. Although the 1er did seem slightly more "tossable," the sacrifice in practicality wasn't worth it. Like I said, BMW screwed the pooch by leading us to believe one thing, then doing something totally different. The 1er should not weigh near what it does. But, it still sells, so they must be doing something right....

The center stack being oriented more towards the driver, I do like; however, the materials and overall layout of the cabin do seem a bit low-rent compared to the 3. That's just the way it is, and is to be expected.

when you sit in them back to back, pay attention to the interior quality, there's really no difference that I could tell

Well I'm a bit OCD, and as soon as I noticed the "forgotten trim," I knew it was going to bother me. I have to admit, though, the 1 is a nice car. Opinion on interior quality is just that - an opinion.

I was so pissed - and almost heartbroken really - when the weight figures came out. I was expecting much better from BMW. It was a sheer let-down. Not only that, but I felt I was deliberately misled into believing the car was going to be a couple hundred pounds lighter. In this day and age, I guess that's wishful thinking.

I always wondered why they put that little bit of trim there it looks out of place

I would be happy with NO TRIM, just adds weight, the wood trim in my wifes X5 started to crack too

This thread makes me grin. Made me think of what the 5 vs 3 equivalent would look like.

looks are subjective. Some think the 3er looks better, some the 1er. It is based on your own PERSONAL OPINION.

There is no doubt the 1er is faster, even it is only by a little. This is a fact. live with it.

end thread/
