Gas station stories!

To some the gas station is simply a mild inconvenience on their way to work, or a place to buy a pack of smokes. To a select few, it is a testosterone filled proving ground where men compare toys. As M3 owners we are the later; the select few who seem to constantly endure feedback from fanboys at the pump next to us. Today a bright yellow 2019 mustang pulled up, proudly revving his turbo 4 banger and like a bat out of hell ran right towards me. His first question, "that an m3?". I gave him a nod. He followed up with, "you sure?" I chuckled a bit. He told me all about his recently purchased 'Stang, and I congratulated him, as the new mustangs truly are a well built car.

However things started to take a turn... Perhaps because my car is relatively stock, save for a few carbon fiber bits here and there, he continuously denied that my car was a "real M3". Roping me in with all the M badge wearing 328's and boasting his chest out farther than Pinocchio's nose. Rather than popping the hood and ending things there, I calmly returned to the well known spot of pumping gas into the oh-so-thirsty "328".

After finishing up at the pump I turn the car on. With a throaty roar and a straight line ahead, I let the trumpets sing all the way to 8300 rpm. The bright yellow mustang just a blip in my rear view, approaches at the next light with his window down and jaw dropped, all he says is, "wow".

It's these little wins that remind me day in and day out just how fantastic these cars truly are. I couldn't help but think how this effect would never have been achieved had I been in an F80.

Anyone else have gas station stories?

Yesterday, while filling up, a 15 passenger Ford van pulled up on the otherside of my pump. I walked past to go inside and he asked if I knew of any good local pizza places since he was from out of town. I recommended one that I frequent, then went inside and bought a gatorade (I was thirsty). Then I walked out and got in my car and drove away. As I was driving out of the station, some stupid cat ran right in front of my car and I had to pause to let it run across the road! Then I kept driving home.

I get a compliment pretty much every time I fill up. Most people ask what year it is. They think it's new. It's mostly guys though. I'll talk to them about the car until they lose interest. It's okay.

I usually get the " Hey man that car is bad ass" from kids in hondas and BRZ's, and or filthy looking, homless looking people in clapped out chevy luminas. Those make me itchy for my CCW.... People in central FL are crazy and you never know whos gonna try to car jack you.

You shouldve asked him if his car was a V8 like yours.

I've owned mine since April and I haven't gotten a single compliment from a stranger yet. It's still completely stock other than the exhaust and brake lines/fluid, but I keep the car very clean. I wash it a lot.

Few years back . While I filled up , sexy lady stopped along me also to fill up .
She said I really love the color of your car (Silverstone) and the solar pannel roof too !
I said it's actually a carbon roof ! Her face turned blood red , and the conversation was suddenly over !

Never once had anyone say anything to me at the gas station in any car. Guess I'm doing it wrong. Need to work on my hard fueling.

We live on the Eastside, our M3's don't stand out

I had my m3 de-badged for a while before I decided to put it back on. While I had no m3 emblem people would come up to me and ask if it's a 335 or 328 with quad exhausts Just like OP said, once you start the s65 and pull away, they know it's not a 6 cylinder banger!

Our thirsty cars do spend their share of time at the gas pump.

I went to the gas station the other day and filled up my car. No one cared about me though. Maybe it depends on the area you are in. I've owned my car for 5 years and got a total of 3 compliments on it. Maybe because its the sedan and doesn't stand out as much?

The fact that it's a sedan is definitely a factor. People usually do a double take before realizing that my car is a M3. Coupes grab peoples attention.

I bought my AW+CF roof 2013 new and the first year or two every time at a gas station I had appreciation from others. Even had thumbs up and waves on the highway while I was in the break-in time. Never had any of that when I drove my 135.
I suspect the new models get that attention now.

I was at the gas station about a month ago when I look to the pump across from me and see a Porsche 911 Turbo S pull in. While I was admiring the car I see an older gal in her 50's or there abouts get out from the driver seat and I'm thinking - that's cool! She swiped her credit card and then proceeded to pick the fuel grade and picks the low grade 87 octane! WTF? I'm sure when she gets home the REAL owner of that car will ask: "So you put 91 octane in right?..." she'll say "Uh... Yeah honey, sure did!"

Doesn't seem like many know about the E90. Had a kid about trip over himself when he saw my car. He thought it was an F80 and was asking how I did such a clean E92 front end swap.
