Why not buy a used hood to cut up?

Track forum general chit chat.

It's a bit nerve wracking with cutting the hood. Once you start, there is no going back. I just had somebody else do it for me who had experience with the vents and AeroCatch installation. AeroCatch is even more tedious

I went with the TrackSpec vents as well.

they allow for a little bit of adjustment after being cut... there is about 1/2" of overlap. the lines in the stencils are the cut lines. the entire piece of paper is the profile of the vents on the hood.

this seems like its going too easy. i'm also planning on cutting with the hood on the car. i'm going to elevate the hood and put a tarp between the engine bay and the hood to catch shavings. then i'm just gunna send it.

it would be too hard to source. i've never seen a local space grey hood for sale. storing my oem hood properly would be a huge pain. plus, this one has plenty of rock chips in it.

the gods of speed will smile at this sacrifice.

Too bad I'm on the other side of the country because I have an extra hood lying around from my "interaction" with an 18 wheeler's retread. The very front nose part is dented up a bit but I was able to straighten it up pretty good with a poly dead blow hammer. Oh and it's apline white, not space grey.

Done for the day. I've been up for 24 hours and I'm starting to get tired. Plus, it's hot. The vents will be riveted in tomorrow. Couldn't help but set them on... keep in mind, they have a bit of adjustment in them.

So with regards to the kink, the center line radius is ~725 feet, and the largest possible radius is ~1200 feet. So yes, it's a very long, sweeping corner. If you use the formula MPH = sqrt(15 * max lateral G * radius), you'll see how fast you can go through there.

A car that can sustain 1.0g and takes the center line radius can theoretically go through there at 104mph. If you take the largest possible radius and can still hold that 1.0g, that increases to 134mph. Obviously you aren't going to take the center line radius.

What speed does a typical e9x m3 reach by he time it gets to the kink?

Do folks here have any strong opinions for/against Rock Auto for an OEM part? It's cheaper for me to just replace my calipers and then rebuild them on my own time, and they have them for about 20% less than even the cheaper online dealers.

Would you guys buy them from Rock Auto or just pay the premium to get them straight from GM so you know they're good? Seems like it's hit or miss with Rock Auto.

Replace with new and rebuild them for fun. Then in the future, cycle them in/out of service as needed between rebuilds.

I've never ordered anything from Rock Auto for a performance car, but ordered all the parts for the engine rebuild on my F150 and had zero issues.

Guys with the N54 engine were able to source OEM injectors for substantially less $$$ on Rockauto (when they were in stock) and did not problems with the product.

Might have missed it but who made those vents?
