Is this the powersteering pump or rack?

Hey all,

My PS pump has been whining for a while (2007 car, 68k miles) and recently it's decided it's had enough of life at low RPM.

At idle there's no powersteering, if I rev to around 3000rpm and above, the pump does offer some PAS, with it getting more normal at higher rpm.

It's also whining a lot more on steering lock.

I'm just double checking as I've seen the issues with the powersteering pumps switching direction at some point in 2008 so I don't want to get the pump replaced with the wrong one and still have it not work, as that doesn't seem to be something that's known in the uk, even with the specialists.

Any thoughts welcome. The variable nature of the powersteering has led me to ask as even after all the googling in the world, I've not seen anyone with a "gradual pump failure"

I hate being that "is the computer turned on" guy but these are the symptoms I had when I had a power steering leak and the level of the power steering fluid was low. Have you checked the level of your power steering fluid?

It's probably fine, but it's a 10 second check so might as well.
