M3 vs 2009 CLS63
Got rid of my 2008 e90 M3 early last year and did an Evo 10 (cheap thrills) Now I'm ready to get another M3. However, I stopped by the Mercedes dealer today to chat with an old friend who works there and fell in love with the CLS63. I realize they are very different but has anyone ever considered these two against each other?
This time around will be automatic and comfortable. No mods, except maybe wheels. |

I think it's more what you prefer. It's not like you're comparing a M3 to a C63, the CLS as you've mentioned is totally different. But with most comparisons between BMW and Mercedes, what are you looking for more? Pure driving or more luxury? I don't usually prefer Mercedes but after watching Entourage and seeing Ari drive the CLS, it's a hot car and definitely an improvement from the previous generation.

It was either C&D or R&T. The car is over $100k. The $94K base doesn't have the power boosted performance package. I use to own a CLS55 and think this new car looks infinitely better than the rolling cigar shape of its predecessor.

Went to my MB dealership last week to look at a c63 coupe. They didn't have one so the manger showed me an 2012 cls63. The car looked amazing in black, especially the new headlights. He started the car I was surprised at how raw it sounded since I was expecting a "step down" in the sound department from the 6.2 engine. Not at all.
He then proceeded to revved the heck out of the car and it sounded incredible. The car was louder that my m3 with the AA exhaust (and no drones !). It sounded like a roaring lion next to my howling wolf. I was complete sold on the sounds. the interior was nice (black leather with piano-black trims) He tried to talked me to getting a CLS vs. a c63 since that car would still be in the same car class as a m3. He said that I should "upgrade" to a higher car. More matured, successful-business man car vs. the boy racer car. I'm on the fence about this since I realize that the car is $105 k. That's some nice sport cars territory.... The car is amazing though. If you like fast four door cars with attitude and prestige, this is the one to get. |

My MB sales guy was honest and said the 2012 CLS63 is not worth it when comparing it to a 2009 CLS63 due to the depreciation. New AMG's lose about 20-40% value after 2 years. I really like the 2012 but i'm not about to shell out 100k for any car. I will stick with CPO (certified pre-owned) with just about any car.

Well, I've never owned a Benz so I don't know what to expect after living with it on a daily basis. I have a few friends that own them and they seem to be in the shop a lot for repairs but they still love them.

we never had any trouble with them except one, a 2000 sclass. which was a real bitch to deal with - airmatic suspension, tires sensors, brake sensors, god knows. since that one, we have had 4 and no major issues, a curious amount of flat tires on one sclass, and funny tires on the cls63 as well. other than a glitchy sunroof on the cls, nothing to bitch about. i would opt for it with the perf package if you can. the alcantara and cf bits are nice, but the lim diff makes it so much more fun when you wanna be dumb. the only thing i find weird about it, is that i find the steering unnaturally heavy, especially at low speeds.
