wow~
Yeah there is definitely a whine/induction noise. It sounds very much like a supercharger.

+100. I miss my E90 M3. It sounded better than my GT-R. As for the F8X M cars, they just sound terrible. Even with any of the aftermarket exhausts they just sound like an even louder fart can. The only F8X M cars that seem to sound decent are those with built engines and aftermarket turbos. Those tend to have a sound similar to an RB26DETT skyline engine which is great. How hard can it be for BMW to engineer some better sound into the engine? Literally the only reason why I didn’t get an F80 M3 after selling my E90 M3 was because the F80 sounded so bad.

That may be true but Bimmerpost is the original E9x online community and still the largest forum for that platform.
Even though it has since expanded to encompass all subsequent BMWs, this is still the go-to spot for all things E9x related. So while we (E9X'ers) are old news, but obsolete we are not In the meantime, I'm coming up on 10 years next month since I first registered on here (seriously an old fart now). And now to bring the thread back on track. A little discussion on the all-important mirrors. What's interesting is that the M3 GT4, by default, comes equipped with smaller aerodynamically designed mirrors that are reminiscent of the E36 M3 mirrors. Whereas in the video, one can see the mirror installed is that derived from a standard pre-LCI E9x 3-series. I'm unsure if this is something that could've been spec'd upon ordering or if this was a later replacement/modification. In either case, just an observation I noticed and there is a thread on this for those who want to nerd out on the M3 GT4 mirrors. https://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1213693

Not the highest quality video in the world, and its a GTS not a GT4, but the sound is still incredible... even the birds were happy!
Watch "BMW E90 M3 GTS.mpg" on YouTube

I get that the f8x is faster, more efficient and is engineered to simply be better than the e9x. But in all the ways that are important to me, it's just not.
When I had my 335 and installed my performance exhaust, the sound of the crackle and burbling made my enjoy my car so much more. It didn't matter what newer cars were coming out with newer fancier technology and improvements. The way a car stimulates your senses with a throaty sound of the exhaust, a tight feel in the steering, or simply being more visually appealing (I think the f8x is overstyled, as Jeremy clarkson put it) is how I rate cars. Videos like this (for me) shows the f8x was a step backwards. Again I know it's better, but just doesn't excite me the way an e9x does.

It's interesting that cars are now faster and more efficient than the E92 M3, that's just progress. Many view that car with nostalgia as the last of the naturally aspirated M cars, which it was.
Guys will watch an E92 M3 go around a track just to listen to it because they know an M3 or an M4 will never sound like that again. And after watching for just a few seconds they know that's exactly how a car should sound. To the fans here they simply consider it music from Munich. |

You need to listen to some E30 325i M20B25 engines, especially the stripped out ones.
BMW NA engines and M NA engines (I6, v8 and v10s) are one if not the best mass produced sounding engines created. Maybe the air cooled flat 911 would top them, but only just. |
