Call me unenlightened, but if the "Auto Start Stop Function" is on the US-bound 2011, I'm canceling the order I placed earlier this week.

I currently own both E36 and E46 M3's, and don't need more opportunities for electronic fails on my car. If my car is going to shut down, I'm going to be doing it.

I hope BMW USA is listening.

But you can still put the car into neutral, in which case it will automatically let the clutch out.

Not sure if that is the only way Start/Stop kicks in on a DCT car, but it would make sense.

Brake, put it in neutral and then release the brake I guess.

Don't know if BMW's with an automatic gearbox already have the Auto Start Stop function.
Maybe it's only for the 6MT ...

Both times I've driven a DCT M3, in D mode, you come to a complete stop, let off the brake and you sit there, no rolling forward. I'm assuming the car is put in neutral for you with some sort of brake engaged? Then you hit the gas and go.

I'm hoping this is just fear of the unknown and that once the details come out I will be put at rest, but having just placed an order for an ED E90 M3, I'm concerned with this auto start stop possibly being forced upon me.

weird i would think that this would be worse for the gas miles and what not. man i kinda like the rear cf trunk spoiler, i would def be looking into the competion pack when it comes time to buy a m3

Yes, it can be deactivated via a button found in the center console (between the heated seat buttons in pre 2011 cars).

Best regards,
south
Not to nitpick but the seat heater buttons are up with the HVAC controls as of MY2010. So this Start/Stop Disable button would be down with the rear window shade button. Seems a lot of subtle changes made it into MY2010.

I thought that it was that the testing cycle didn't favor it. In other words the test cycle doesn't include a truly representative amount of stopped idling that I in Southern California might experience for example in freeway traffic.

According to mapezzul, the Start/Stop is EU only.

Of course start stop would raise your actual mileage, assuming you use it, but this doesn't help the window sticker or help BMW NA reduce their fines.

I suspect the European test does give reasonable credit for start stop or else the technology wouldn't be on various BMW models.

Cheers!
+1. I should have read further before chiming in with a ditto (above).

It can be disabled. The US may not include auto stop/start in its EPA testing yet, but as I stated before, manufacturers have to address the stricter mileage and emissions requirements, sports cars included. We're only going to see more and more technology like this included on future products whether we like it or not.

I'm not sure we'll see it in the US just yet, but we most likely will someday.

It is for both DCT and 6MT according to this summary. This is the first DCT application, apparently. Previously the only other non-manual applications were the ActiveHybrid 7 and X6.

You're right, I changed my post to MY 2010.

Glass lenses are a non-US thing. Have to remember that this was the BMW AG announcement. BMW NA will very likely vary from this in detail.

front spoiler just looke like performance ones on regular 3ers M package....

I am sorry BMW designers, rear spoiler just doesn't look good at all............

CSL wheels dont look as nice as expected as well, would look much better if they are in black..

10mm drop is nothing, but still noticable on my Edition Model.

I thought a ZCP splitter would be a GTS replica, a bit disappointed.

I expect them to be identical. That detail most certainly is just the result of a bad translation.
