One of the popular option is to paint the trunk but have them leave the edge of the duckbill carbon and fade it.

I painted mine but my car is white.

I see pics of the fade but never liked the way it looked. I wonder if it looks better in person.

It would look awfully mismatched if left unpainted IMO. I would recommend the duckbill fade option, UNLESS, you have lots of other exposed carbon bits around the car.

If you are unsure you could also have someone wrap it in sparkling graphite and leave some carbon accent exposed. Color probably won't be a perfect match to the paint, but it should be close enough to give you a good idea till you decide.

I made a transaction with a forum member yesterday and his car had the CSL trunk painted AW with the fade on the tip. Looked really good actually.

I'm on the fence about it.

Personally, I like carbon fiber accents but a trunk lid is too much to be an accent so I prefer to paint it.

Paint it and keep the clean/factory look. Unpainted screams "I'm trying too hard".

Why buy a carbon fiber part just to paint completely and not show off the carbon? Why not just buy fiber glass?

IMO, do both. Paint it to match the car but show off some carbon.
I painted mine but left the license plate area exposed. You can see it on my Instagram if you'd like. I would post photos here but my phone erased all my photos -.-

I would paint the whole thing, I don't like when there is exposed carbon on the duckbill lip.

Paint it. trunks and hoods look silly unpainted. I also think the whole partial fade thing is a turn off.

Agree; I don't like the fade thing either. I painted mine.

Because carbon fibre is lighter and stronger than the aluminum or steel part it often replaces. Not everyone is buying it for looks.

Who is a really good quality source for these CF trunk lids?
(ZCP '13 comfort access- no key hole)

I compared it to fiber glass, not steel or aluminum.
To my knowledge, fiber glass parts are usually cheaper than carbon fiber parts. I would personally go fiber glass if I was going to paint it completely.

It reminds of those houses with solar panels on the roofs except in a car version.

BMW didnt paint the carbon roof and i dont see people painting over it... I think if carbon works with your color scheme or other carbon parts, you can leave it bare. That makes selling it in the future easier as well.

The bare carbon roof flows with the glass and overall theme. An unpainted hood or trunk doesn’t flow with the lines. It’s obviously a personal preference with passionately held opinions.
