ECU tune advice needed! Locked content

Hey guys,

Hoping some of the knowledgeable folks here can give me some good advice.

I currently have a Powerchip tune in my car. No CEL mod as I have high flow cats. My flash version is from about a year ago so I have been dealer upgraded since all the DCT issues.

My car is an 09 and the NAV is terrible. The dealer is willing to upgrade my NAV to all new 2011.5 maps under warranty. However, they gave me the car back since they said the upgrade would require an entire car system flash upgrade and I instructed no software flashes. This would overwrite my tune.

Question is two fold.... Has anyone noticed substantial NAV improvement with the 2011.5 maps? Do I get sat view?

Also, do I get new iDrive enhancements with the upgrade?

If so, I could always let them and then retune (it is harder to retune once locked though and will cost a few bucks more)

What say you all?? is it worthwhile? Or leave well enough alone.... Sorry if this is the wrong section, it kind of fits in both engine and electronics....

Thanks!!

I would honestly say its up to you. I don't have nav on my car. But if you really think its worth it to get an upgraded 2011 nav, and then pay the bucks for the new tune, go ahead and do it. Maybe this time around you could even explore some other options besides powerchip.

(Evolve can remotely tune tuner locked cars... compare their cost, with the convenience of being able to reflash your own car at your own time...)

ECU Lock

Regarding the ECU, my expierience with dealerships in Houston is they overwrite the ECU even when you specifically tell them not to The last time this happened a lock was placed on my ECU which prevented me from putting back my tune using an ODBII device from OE Tuning. To resolve the issue, I had to ship my ECU to OE Tuning and they remove the ECU lock and put back my tune.

Your best bet is to contact PC to ensure they can put your tune back in the event the dealer puts you back to stock with a lock

They bring up some very valid points. Evolve Automotive has come up with a very unique solution to tuning, combining realistic honest power with convenience and affordability.

I have the Evolve evolve-R Tune on my E46 M3. The evolve-R cable alone is completely worth EVERY penny. There has already been a few times where I had to flash my tune back to stock to help diagnose problems and to make sure my car is running in it's proper form. If I didn't have that cable, then having to mail out my DME would be such a hassle.

I'm sure you are very pleased with your PowerChip tune as many are, but just consider that Evolve offers a solution that essentially has NO limitation. That way you can keep your Nav, iDrive, and DME up to date, but at the same time keeping the unleased power from your tune.

Something definitely worth thinking about

Just FYI, our end user OBD II flashing tool is around the corner. It will give you the exact benefits of the evolve tool.

Also, a little more far out, but also exciting news, is carb certification for our ECU tunes

Before that's available we can reflash you to our latest software version if you are interested.

Thank you,
Mike Benvo
