are all these dealer's option a ripoff ?

Predictably, my dealer financial adviser is proposing dealer options just as I am about to pay the car (I already have his signature on the price). I think I will pass all. Did you pick any of these for your M3 ?
-Maintenance Upgrade - 6 year/100,000 miles $3,200
-Dealer Repair Program $100 deductible waived at dealer. 6 yr/100,00 @ $3000 and 7 yr/75,000 mi @ $2300
-Road hazard tire & wheel replacement. 5 years $800
-XPel clear Bra - (3M/Scotchgard protection film). front of car, a third of the way up the hood, front sides of mirrors, door edges, cups, and sills, trunk ledge. 5-year warranty $900
-Exterior and interior finish. one-time application, + cleaning and renewal kit, $500
-Ding removal specialists 3 year $400; 5 year $600

Only one I would consider is the wheel and tire insurance. $800 for 5yrs is a pretty good price when you consider that one PS2 will run you at least $350 before installation, balance etc. Comp. Pkg. wheels are another $400+. If your roads in bad, likely worth it.

Maint. program is crap unless you are a high mileage driver. Based on their program (regular service indicator in the car) you only get a couple of oil changes and possibly some new brake pads, not worth $3,200 as you are really only getting 2 years beyond the OEM coverage. Pass

Not sure what "dealer repair program" is but the pricing makes it look like a basic extended warranty with a $100 deductible. Pass

All the exterior stuff, pass as well. If you want a clear bra, have it done by a third party...

I would pass on all of those. Since you're in GA, I'd highly recommend Keith for a clear bra if you decide you want one. He'll install a very high quality film and his prices are quite reasonable.

He does a lot of work doing vinyl wraps and I know he's done a lot of high end cars and also did a lot of Wranglers for the local Jeep dealer.

http://chuforiagraffix.com/

His website has a ton of Lotus stuff on it, since that's what he drives. But I'd have him work on any of my cars if he was any closer.

Actually reading the details it says "repaired or replaced". That probably means they will never replace a wheel only the tires. And damaging the wheels on a curb is not going to be covered. Roads are excellent quality here.

Rim and tire is a MUST here in NYC.
If your leasing, Dent/Dent is a good idea (still kinda getting ripped off, but, its NYC, people have no respect for anything that isnt their own, and it beats the headache of having to bring your car everywhere for every little bumper chip and parking lot "dbag hit my car and left" mishap).
Xyzllion + is ok if you can get a good price. But its basically a high quality detail/sealant that lasts about 2 years.

Maint upgrade skip definitely, dealer repair skip, road hazard skip (if your a AAA member).

I'm in FL and the roads here are decent -- but I went with the tire/wheel protection (and paid a bit more than $800 too...that's a good deal you're getting), due to the peace of mind. They're not going to repair a rim, because if its curbed, you get no help, so the only way the wheel protection would come into play is if the rim were badly bent/damaged beyond repair. The PS2s are $500 from the dealer + mounting/balancing -- Also remember that our cars don't have jacks/spares, so for me the peace of mind that if I get a flat I just have to call BMW and they'll come get me, replace my tire at the closest dealership, and get me on my way, it's worth it to me.

Everything but the tire maintenance is either worthless or you can get it cheaper somewhere else.

Even the tire option could be worthless depending on how and where you drive.

It depends on what kind of film they use and the coverage their patterns give you.

I'm willing to bet that they don't install it themselves, they have a 3rd party do it. So there's obviously enough room in that price to give two parties a margin.

I see they're using Xpel film. That's supposed to be really good stuff.

Personally, I'd still contact Keith since I trust him and suspect that he could give you the same coverage or better for less money.

$900 is a bit over market price for Scotchguard, but it's a GREAT deal for XPEL. Both are two different films, you need to clarify which one is being used.

This is a little different (First Automotive). "You get up to $100 reimbursement for towing assistance when directly related to a covered failure". But roads are excellent around here. I would need 2 flats in 5 years to make it worthwhile... I had none in 9 years with my current car (not a sportscar). Should I assume flat tires are more prone to get nails in them ?

That is correct, a local specialized shop is doing it for the dealier.
They use the XPEL Computer Plotting/Cutting System. But the film is 3M Paint protection film eight mil (.008") clear Urethane plastic with a clear-coat finish.

Probably not -- I've just had bad luck throughout my driving-life with flats. From when I started driving at 18, in the last 11 years I've driven 9 different cars and had approximately 15 flat tires in that time. So I put my average at >1 flat per year and based on that math I figured the plan would pay for itself.

Garage List
Most of them are basically insurance, and it's FUD selling (fear, uncertainty, doubt). Like any insurance most people will spend more on premiums than events arising from what they are insuring had they not been insured.

Not bashing insurance here at all, but would no it go near any dealer offered insurance products, simply because there is a greater than 50% chance that it will be more expensive in the long run to do so, and you have little frame of reference to competing products which means they are probably high margin for the dealer and so the probability of you paying more than not buying them is likely much higher than 50%.

I know little about those bras so can't comment on quality or price, but they look like a good option.

800$ is great. I was just quoted 1500.$ for wheel and tire protection. I thought that was really high.

I was quoted $1060, and that's what I'm paying... I thought I was getting a really good deal too, but $800 is even sweeter!

Consider this :
You can get the same warranty (except for the the towing reimbursment) for the Pilot Super Sport or PS2's for $40 per tire (tax included) at Discount tire. (I checked).

let's say you get 30,000 miles out of the tires and drive 15,000 per year then each tire will last you 2 year. Over 5 years you will then need 2.5 set of tires.
So the total cost for comparison with the dealer insurrance ($800) is :
$40 x 4 tires x 2.5 sets = $400 for the tire insurance

That gives you plenty of margin for towing cost (besides if you get a AAA membership...) and one wheel replacement. If you drive 30,000 per year it is same price $800 but who drives that much, i don't. So I do not see the value in that.

What do you think about $400 for 5 years (15,000 miles per year) tires protection then ? (See my previous post) you can get that directly at discount tire no need to pay $800 or more from a separate insurer.
