trading interior

Hey guys I have 08 m3 E90 with fox red interior. I want to put in black interior so how much should I be asking on top with the trade? Is it even worth doing it?

You want black... another individual wants (the oh so glorious) Fox Red...

If the condition of both interiors is similar, why would you think the other guy should pay a premium?

Win win, right?

It's worth doing it because no way fox red will age as well as black novillo

This would be very tempting if I lived near you. Same car and year + black interior.

90% of the local cars listed with black interiors and over 100k have worn out bolsters regardless of the color. It's napa leather so it likes regular maintenance.

If your interior is Fox Red 'extended' I'd pay for the red 'extended' parts outright. Already have Fox red, but not extended.

That's not how it works because fox red is more desirable.

It's hard to say without seeing the condition and my understanding is '08 seats have different headrest and I'm not sure if it's fully compatible with the later years. But if both interiors are in same condition I'd be happy to pay $500 to upgrade my black interior to fox red.

My interior is 9/10. I am just trying to determine the cost for example full interior by itself sells for about 2000USD+ and black can be had for 7-800.

Let's say for instance I'm offered 1600CAD+Black for trade, should I consider it? Would it drop the value of my car when the time comes to sell it?

I traded my e90 fox red extended for black and the guy with the black interior gave me $300 on top of us helping each other swap the interiors on the spot. Both were 9/10 condition.

Thank you haha. I'm local to him and have black but I'm not paying what he's asking. It's crazy

That about 2600CAD give or take so the offer I have is fair. Thanks

I have never seen one pop up for sale local here so it's all about supply and demand.

The 2008s do indeed have different headrests and apparently don't directly fit in >2009s. As for the fox red being more valuable. I always thought the the same; however, as our cars have aged, I think the red hasn't held up as well. The black seems to wear better; now the silver and beige leather has never aged well and is definitely less desirable.

My point is "value" or "more desirable" is in the eye of the beholder... or beholders in the case of a trade.

Perhaps someone willing to trade their Fox Red for Black actually likes FR better and is only interested in a $300-500 profit... or perhaps they don't actually like FR better more than black like you and me ?

Also - Just playing devils advocate to a large extent..

I've considered doing this. I have black. I've seen some pics of fox red in a blue M3 and it looks amazing.

My two cents on this topic as I've considered it a bit:

I would not be willing to give someone money on top of my mint black interior.

There are 3 sets of Fox red seats on eBay for under $1500 right now. Black is a few hundred cheaper, sure.

But it's worth it to me to spend the extra few hundred bucks to keep/store my original interior. I'd not be willing to lose my original interior -and- pay money.

Ultimately I'm leaning towards white M4 seats now. But just wanted to share my thought process on this so the op could get an idea of how some people might think when considering a trade.

Don’t let it go for any less because fox red e90 interior is very hard to come by.

Thinking about it as well

I have a 2008 M3 E93 with light grey interior and I too wanted to exchange my interior with someone. The red looks great with the correct exterior color but not with mine. Mine is blue (can't remember the actual color) but the red wouldn't match. I want black too... good luck
