This is how I clean my ZCP 359 wheels. (pics and a video)
These threads pop up from time to time and i thought i would put together a quick DIY today.
this is the wheel cleaner i use; http://www.autogeek.net/sonax-wheel-cleaner.html the brushes i use; http://www.autogeek.net/mothers-wheel-brush.html http://www.autogeek.net/wheel-woolie...ing-tools.html http://www.autogeek.net/sonax-wheel-rim-brush.html i use autogeek.net for just about all of my car wash stuff... great customer service, and lots of products. subscribe to their emails and you will be alerted to when they have their sales. a couple times a year they have 25% off and free shipping. that is when i stock up for the year. stay away from this thing. it makes a huge mess and flings wheel cleaner all over the place. you and your clothes will be spotted, and it doesn't work well as a wheel cleaner. http://www.autogeek.net/ezdebrfca.html a before pic; 1. spray a generous amount of wheel cleaner on the dry wheel from the bottom up. DO ONE WHEEL AT A TIME! 2. scrub behind spokes with the sonax wheel tool 3. use a large wheel woolie and roll it around in the spokes like you're ringing a dinner bell. 4. use the mother's wheel brush to clean the outer areas of the spokes and wheel face. 5. rinse the individual wheel you just cleaned right after you cleaned it. move on to the next wheel. and there it is. a quick vid showing my process. it only takes me about 5 minutes per wheel from start to finish.

Great write up. Having a pressure washer helps a lot with the scrubbing.Have you tried both wheel cleaner plus and the wheel cleaner full effect? The plus is a tad bit more expensive but I don't notice any difference.

I start with the inside of the wheel first. So I spray sonax liberally, wheel wholly on the barrel all around, then clean the spokes and finally face. This way you're not bringing new dirt onto cleaned face.
I also spray all four wheels and let sonax work. Longer you let it sit, easier it is to clean.

I also start with the barrels then work my way to the face of the wheel. I usually do 1 wheel at a time but different cleaners allow for more or less dwell time before drying on the wheel. I've just accepted that these wheels suck to clean and take longer than the rest of the car.
They are one of the best looking wheels for the E92 so I take the good with the bad. One more thing, I've tried a bunch of wheel cleaners. I find that Meguiars is very good for the $. Since I wash my car weekly, I don't need expensive heavy duty cleaners. |
