Questions about rebuilding the motor
I'm currently shopping for an M3 and I wanted some advice an idea i was thinking about.
2011-12 range, zcp, manual, low miles, are my must haves and my budget (50-55k). I was planning on being stock for a year and then putting on a VT2-625 SC. I found a few 2011 with 70,000 or more miles for $36,000ish. car-$36,000 rebuild engine-? SC-$10,000 If I rebuild the motor and upgraded the needed components, would it be in the 10,000 range? Is this a dumb idea? I wanted to hear someones opinion on it and I can move on. Thanks

Why would you need to rebuild the motor with only 70k miles if it runs fine? 2011's have a lot of varying pricing right now depending on the mileage. You can still find a relatively low mileage ~ 40k for 45-48 and those with less than 20k miles for ~50-52k.

I wouldnt but thats just me, you can rebuild the engine but all the other parts will still have 70k on them, for 55k you can find a real nice 12 w/warranty and most likely so basic add on's both cosmetic and performance.
Although just lookn at the classifieds it looks like 11's are worth about 5k more then they where ah couple weeks ago.

I love how not one of you actually answered his question.
Maybe he wants to build a running motor for peace of mind. It is a hell of a lot cheaper to build a motor that works than rebuilding a blown one. |

Unless I misunderstood his "upgrading needed components" statement. I'm assuming he wants to S/C his car and have a built motor. |

Rebuilding the engine to stock is one thing, adding a SC would be no problem. Rebuilding a engine to a LC spec. then adding a SC is an entirely diff situation. So to answer the question OP, we need to know what is the goal of a rebuild?
