Arrow C&D Editors choose M3 as their pick from 400+ hp club

It beat out Ford Mustang GT, Nissan GT-R in the same category.

I like C&D but their BMW bias is nuts. Saying the M3 is better than the Ferrari California, the GT3, the GTR, the R8, the Rolls Phantom, and the Alfa Romeo 8C?

That's just fanboyism.

M3 just does everything well. I think that is always what makes it stand out from better performing cars, especially to reviewers. In individual catagories, the M3 wins some and loses some, but overall I think its hard to beat, just from my shopping around.

They didn't seem to outline any criteria for who gets to win this list. Is it "our pick" if they had an unlimited budget or are they thinking of a daily driver? I see where they're going but people shopping in the 400hp range can have wildly different ideas of what they want in a car.

please do not ever compare an alfa romeo to a bmw. the 128 is a better quality vehicle than any ALFA i owned and suffered with one. and the current reviews are horrid. im sure it didnt compare it with ferrai or the GT2 . i can see a comparison with the R8 and the GTR.

This was my 1st reaction - much as I love my ///M - but think the poster

If I were going to the track I'd choose the GT3; a weekend jaunt on the Pacific Hwy, the Cali. For gorgeousness: the 8C.

But on a day-in-day-out basis + the ability to do track, the M3 does make sense and is relatively affordable.

M3 is jack of all trades, and when you look at the whole picture it's a wonderful car.

Except range and fuel economy, in which case it's one of the worst cars made in the last few decades.

The Chrylsers are far worse on mpg for the same HP. (300, Charger, etc). friend of mine with an SRT 300 gets around 12.

Advertising Dollars, the editors keep that in mind when they edit an article, and remind the writers of that too.

I had a friend canned from a magazine because he "offended" the #1 advertiser by writing a crummy review of their product.

Do I think the M3 is the best car that makes over 400HP, no. Do I think the M3 is the best car that makes over 400HP that I could afford, yes I do.

Yeah, I don't think so. There are a lot of cars on that list that will top the M. None the less, the M is pretty sweet.

I'm thinking that they are right on. I would not have another car for a DD. I know that it is not the best track car, or the most luxurious. It is a track car, it is luxurious and it really feels so tight and well built. Everyone knows the GTR will kill it on a track, everyone knows a DB9 is pure sex and everyone knows that a 7 series is way more luxurious. I think C&D is giving us there honest opinion of what they would choose, if they could only have one. I read another article from them a few months back, about the M3. It was a refresh on it. They said after 3 years of it being out, they were so impressed, that they thought it might be the best car out there period. It is bias, because that is what they like, opinions are bias. I do believe that it is there honest opinion though.

U guys are talking about Fuel Consumption... Take a look at this... (just thought u would get a kick out of it)

The M3 is a all around amazing car.... BUT.... ... .. .

I have owned a lexus from brand new to 100,000 miles and NEVER had a single problem... My brand new BMW has 5,000 miles on it and it has be in for service 2 ta 3 time a month....

Isn't QUALITY and RELIABILITY in the same category???

You're driving a 135I, first year for the car. Pretty innevitable that it will have some teething issues. Most of the issues with the M3 seem to stem from the 08 model year as well. Thats pretty typical for all manufacturers. Lexus hasn't been without its own issues in the last year either.
