cheapest way to ship tires?

not sure if the tires off my old x3mc are particularly large (21" rims) but both UPS and FedEx are quoting $100 a piece to ship them. Last time I shipped a set it was ~$50 a piece, and the interwebs still quotes that as the target price.

Is there another option?

I think I have an M3 problem.

You can always try usps. Surprisingly they often stay competitive compared to ups v fedex. For what it's worth, I just shipped a cf front lip for $180 via fedex. even had my own box. 18" x 70". Was shocked shipping costs that much. The clerk kept referring to some metric known as "dimensional weight"

Yes, dimensional weight refers to the limit of H + W + D = Total allowed. Each carrirer has a maximum number that if you exceed will take the charge to the max for a given service. An 18x70 box will be well outside the limit and therefore will incur the max charge even if it weighs just a few pounds.

Try shipnerd: https://www.shipnerd.com

They usually have the best prices. Then you just drop it off to UPS or FedEx depending on which one you select.

You can also look at LTL freight shipping. Also, if you have any friends with commercial accounts, their rates are offer way better than "rack" rates normal people have to pay.

It confuses me (well, pisses me off) that places like Tire Rack can drop ship to me for free but it is expensive for me to ship similar sizes and weights.

Another option for future use for large oddball items is Greyhound. https://www.shipgreyhound.com/

With ups and FedEx that didn’t hold up. Was getting crushed on dimensional weight, so an even bigger package would have been worse.
