If you like music...

Do you buy the music or use "other means" to get it

I've been reading a few articles lately about how music videos killed radio and how internet killed record sales. With that being said, what does the future of music business look like in the next 10+ years?

Seems like independent is the only way to go now.

P.S. Poll is not public for various reasons

iTunes because I usually get gift cards for birthdays and Christmas and stuff... Plus I keep my music on my iPhone and it's a bit easier to hop on iTunes on the phone and download it right there instead of downloading it to my PC and transferring it and all that.

I don't even download the stuff on my PC anymore, it's all done in the Cloud (ooooh, lol).

my "other" way is a subscription to rhapsody. i dont want to pay for every music that i listen to. i dont own any of them from rhapsody but i have 3 computers and 3 devices that can access their library... plus any browser. including my phone. been subscribed for maybe 4-5 years now.

28k songs ripped from cd's, downloaded from Amazon, eMusic and the old, infamous AllofMP3.

I use Spotify now for checking out new things and use Amazon for most purchases. I still find it's actually cheaper to order the CD, rip to Apple Lossless and sell the CD than buying digitally.

I'm doing the sequel of "To Catch a Predator" called "To Catch a Pirater"

It will consist of a 5 person A/V crew and we walk into people's homes to hopefully catch them red handed pirating music but we really catch them shamefully fapping instead...

EDIT: While listening to pirated music at the same time

YouTube downloader always works, it's free music. The only downside is renaming the artist, song, and album.

Yeah, only if you like your music files in 128K and below format. Not anywhere near "audiophile" quality.

Vuze.

Haven't bought a music product in almost 10 years. I do pay the artists I like by going to live shows. I've been to over 140 concerts.

10 yrs ago (napster) everyone was claiming that the internet would kill the music business. Not even close, the industry has simply changed and adapted. Artists/agents put more emphasis on merchandising, appearances, advertising gigs, etc. Music videos on youtube are controlled by the labels themselves and ad space is sold before the video will play. Traditional FM radio hasn't suffered as much as many expected, and labels/artists are recognizing new channels like Pandora etc. to push their music, even make their own stations for people to listen to, and these to make money through advertising.

To clarify, I think the article was referring to record sales such as CD's and the whole experience of going to a Tower Records or a specific music store and seeing the album art and stuff.

I agree though, doesn't seem like sales have been hurt too much, just changed how it's sold.
