Yeah sounds high. I had another shop quote me $814 for BBK install + flushing brake fluid. That's ~270$ less than the initial shop.

Anyhow, I think they are way overcharging you for the job.
This was my point in my first response. Depending on location, you'll have different hourly prices. People don't take that into consideration. Companies have to pay for overhead and in the bay it's expensive. It ain't Modesto(no disrespect). Lol

If you in southern Cali bring your car to me I am a certified mechanic I'll do the brake install for 250
About 2.5 hours it's not a big deal as far as your tire install shouldn't cost you more than 100 to install 1400 is a rip off

Most of this is an easy DIY. Have them take care of the tires and do the rest yourself. Your wallet and self-esteem will thank you.

@PetoM3

This is what you want. If you're nervous about diy, find a mechanic that will let you help with the install.

You'll learn a ton and again you want to know how this all works for tracking. It's all rather approachable.

Sure, I think that's a good option if you're more interested in that. I'm not that terribly or deeply interested to value that in - don't get me wrong I'd love to see it being installed, but it's not the highest on my pri list right now. I'd rather spend a fair amount of money (around $1000 total incl. tire mount and balance sounds about what I feel comfortable spending for this) to have it installed properly by a reputable mechanic and I can devote time, effort and focus to something else. Maybe once I get super serious about tracking I'll value that more, right now I plan to do 1-2 track days a year.

Ended up going with Performance Dynamic in Santa Clara. They went above and beyond (they had to fix up one caliper because StopTech screwed up, didn't charge more and did it fast) and it was ~300$ cheaper. They were also pleasure to deal & talk with.

The brakes feel nice. They have smoother continuous brake response unlike the OEMs which taper off a little after a sharp initial bite.

Care to share which shop in the Bay Area quoted ~$1000 for a BBK install? It'll help us locals to never go there

If it is a big name well known shop, maybeeeee I could see that being the quote, but even still its high. but any old shop, no it is a rip off price.

No way should installing a BBK and tires cost near the price of rod bearings.

BTM Motorwerks in Campbell. The rep reiterated they generally want to provide parts since it offsets some of the labor cost. So I guess he threw extra into the estimate just because of that.
