Front cats - 600cpi or...?????
Does anyone know the specs for the stock front catalytic converters?
Most OEM cats are 600cpi. I am contemplating the various pros and cons of deleting the front cats vs the secondary cats in the search for more power! The goal is to have close to OEM sound and no stink from the exhaust. Cost is not a factor which is why I am looking at the Akrapovic center X-pipe with the 100cpi or 200cpi secondary cats and two resonators. |

Primary cats are 400cell, most aftermarket manufacturers are offering 200cell cats. Ihave Fabspeed 200cell cats, they made a huge diffrence over stock(enough that my butt dyno could register the extra hp) as for odor I have yet to smell any unwanted sents. Now I cannot tell you how much db increase you will have from cats alone, I did a full setup all at once and I can say my car is very loud. I'm sure other members can chime in with more detail on sound. As for your choice in exhaust Akrapovic well you cannot go wrong with their exhaust system. GL man

Highly recommend Turner Test Pipes (primary cat delete) - see my review here - http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=379286
This definitely retains the closest sound to OEM, and no smell I'm seeing what feels like 10% increase in low-mid range torque and 5% increase in peak power. iPhone dynolicious reports peak Gs in 2nd gear of 0.56G with turner test pipes, vs 0.50G with stock exhaust. This is with a Powerchip tune. |
