It was $57K and change OTD. Not sure if that is the norm. or not, but it was in the lot for about 6 mths, so that might have played a factor. The $7,500 "truck" money was part of the deal though.
which dealer did you go to?

There was trunk money on '08 M3 M5 and 550i. Many sales folk may not know about it ... you may have to run up the chain and force them to take an internal look ... as these trunk money incentives are "dealer only" and not published to general public for the fear of brand devaluation. Unfortunately, my heart is dead set on 4-doors and DCT (which sold out long ago) and I want to do Euro-delivery too (imagine the M3 on A-bahn and the German Alpenstrasse) so I really can't take advantage of these deals.

Now the 20K off the OP got .. is really .. really .. something ... and well it just makes me recall the statement .. "if it's prob. too good to be true .. it just may be ...". Not saying it didn't happen ... but if the dealer was that desperate to get rid it .. KNOWING that all he needed to do was re-advertise the car for 58K on the internet .. to generate so much buzz ... I wouldn't be surprised if there was a hidden agenda! Nonetheless .. I am a paranoid freak when it comes to super expensive gadgets .. so my fears are probably .. well .. just fears.

But don't count on getting such a deal. I would still say 12-15K of MSRP should be doable. Also note that borrowing costs are very low (for businesses) and the stock market, housing market and consumer sentiment may be turning a corner .. and with summer driving season approaching many dealers may be hoping they can pull off a better deal.

Also note that unlike lease deals .. trunk money can be pocketed by the dealer before it expires. All they do is punch the car .. reporting it as sold and get the money. However, the warranty clock starts then. I was able to almost get in to a Z4 M coupe a couple of years ago for 19K of MSRP (with 12K trunk money) this way. So do keep searching .. the longer you wait .. typically the better the deal.

Good luck ... !
damn did you really get 12k in trunk money on a Z4MC? I got the 7.5k trunk money on my '07, and i wasn't aware it ever went beyond that. I actually heard sometime around early '08 all the trunk money from BMW was withdrawn.

My bad .. u r right .. going back to my notes ... it was 7.5K ... it was a while back .. and their starting offer was 12K OFF MSRP (hence the confusion). So at 59K+ sticker (everything incl. extended leather) ... the car invoiced at around 53-54K ... then taking off trunk money ... it was around high 45K ... IIRC. My offer was 40,500 which later moved up to 41,250 which they were willing to deal. In all about 18K+ off. Then my wife said .. the car or me ... as she can't even reverse a stick ... and well .. I backed off ... and now my new found love for the e90 M3.

The trunk money expires but dealers usually "punch" the car reporting it as sold and pocket the cash (so the deal is still there for the taking). The only catch is the warranty starts ticking from the day it was punched so you buy it with that much of warranty left ... ! This was a 4-month old punched car so I would be getting the remainder of the warranty. Punched on Nov '07 .. was negotiating in Jan-Feb'08. It also had about 100+ miles on it as well.

I am new to the forum because I have been shopping for a new M3. I got offered the same deal from VOB in Rockville but passed on it because I fell in love with DCT. They had two 6MT left when I looked last week. Sounds like one of them is gone already.

The $7500 is VERY REAL if you can find 2008 that fits your needs. I have been offered it from other dealers like BMW of Sterling. Also, got offered $18K off MSRP for a 650i from another dealer if anyone is interested.

Trying to make a deal on 2009 M3 with ED right now.

+1 ... I really want the DCT too .. and that too on an E90 .. that combo sold out 5-6 months ago. Man .. the deals now are awesome. Well hopefully you get a great deal on ED .. and the unique experience of driving it on the A-bahn and alps will be worth what you lost in potential savings on the '08. VOB had a really nice loaded e90 .. my fav. combination too .. JB/BB-extended .. but a manual! I really wanted to go for it but my better half has no clue on handling a manual at all ... ! sucks .. it's sold now .. ... .. Well the wifey is a doctor so hopefully .. she'll pony up the extra (over an '08) for an 2010 M3 .. ED

Yep, that JB e90 on the showroom floor was nice. I wanted to do it also but I can't deal with a Moonroof. I am tall and the racing helmet will not fit with a Moonroof. I had the same problem searching for an used e46 so just decided to throw in the towel and order e90 DCT. That DCT tranny is smooth and will do me well sitting in DC traffic in auto mode.

It just sucks they don't offer HUD on the M3. I am really going to miss that on my 545 sport when I unload it this summer.

I would agree .. HUD is cool but to be honest .. it really is not that big of a deal in the non-M5s ... as you don't get the RPM display nor the gear readings in M mode ... still a nice option nonetheless. I heard the 3-series dash doesn't have the width to accommodate the HUD projector ... which is unfortunately why it is eschewed in this design ... who knows in the next turboed-M3 maybe .... adding boost pressure with variable vane readings .... man that would be something?

If it is any consolation the shift lights in the DCT above the RPM gauge .. are pretty gimmicky ... ! Regardless ... the DCT and the Tech package just MAKE the car in my opinion ... it looks like aircraft cabin from the outside.

Enjoy ... and knock 'em out on the track once you break in ur new baby!!!

I'm glad to see that other great deals are popping up for others. I guess I'll get some pics up this weekend since I just finished giving her the Zaino treatment! I really could not care less if anyone believes me or not. I posted the info for those serious buyers that did not know about the "trunk money". I have had a LOT of PM's on my deal. I can't stress enough that most dealers are not going to advertise a $20k off deal. The first offer to me was for just over $12k off. I stuck with my $49900 number, and it worked but only after the GM approved it. The 1st manager said no. Whether some people like it or not, these deals DO exist. Sure, it does suck to be on the other end of the deal, but it's unique circumstances with the enonomy that created an opportunity for those looking for an M3 and willing to take a year-old car. Regardless of what some think, I got the deal I got and I will smile everytime I think about it.

Interesting that one buyer got 49,900 and another got 49,500. Only the latter qualifies for the federal sales tax deduction. I'm no accountant, but I think the cap is 49,500.

I believe the dedcution is up to 49,500...IOW, you get to take the deduction for the first 49.5k, but anything over you do not.

You may be right, and that would make more sense. I read some conflicting things though.

I think you very likey got the best deal on the planet! Congrats! And I thought $45k for my 2008 IS-F was a steal!
