E92 Sagging Headliner - Pics
Just drove the M3 for the first time in a few weeks and noticed the headliner is starting to sag on both sides. It's only those two areas but I'm hoping they won't spread.
I searched a bunch but couldn't find a single thread either here or on e90post regarding sagging headliners. Doesn't seem like a very common issue. Car is a 2008 that's been garaged its entire life. Has anyone else seen this and is there any way to permanently fix it?

Oh wow that sucks. This is also the very first time I am hearing of this issue on the E9X platform. It was a common problem on the previous generations.
It would probably be best to remove the headliner from the car and peel back the bubbled area, then apply 3M High Strength Fabric adhesive. Let it cure and then re-install.

Not a sunroof car looks like CF roof correct? Maybe high humidity in FL is the cause.

Take it to an auto upholstery shop. It might not be common for the M3, but this happens on lots of cars over time. What's happening is that the glue is dissolving or breaking down from old age. Assuming the headliner itself isn't damaged, they should be able to re-glue it.

That's why the first rule for maintaining a nice car anywhere (but particularly in hot, sunny climates like South Florida) is to keep the car parked in a garage when it isn't being driven.

I'll see if an upholstery shop can do anything.

bump - need some help
I'm going to bump an old thread here.
09 e92 APW with CF roof. Mine started like his in the pictures, but this week the entire covering dropped off almost the entire roof. Very hot week here in South FL did the glue in it seems. Car is always garaged. Did the OP ever find a solution? Do others have suggestions or south FL shops with experience fixing this? I found a DIY on dropping the headliner, it looks like a weekend job but the material is extremely thin. I would be worried about getting it glued back like new. I see the new headliners run a grand (pass).

I used to have a business that replaced headliners. The foam deteriorates. You will need to have a new piece of material glued to the hard board of the unit. Might want to do the side pillars as well they will be right behind.
Costs should run $200-300 depending on how many pieces. |

I appreciate the replies. I looked into one shop but they only seemed to be interested in it if I wanted some kind of suede done
I thought we were done with dropping headliners in the 80s and 90s. I'll keep driving the hoopty around for now.

I ended up repairing my headliner on my sunroof myself. I came back from work one day and felt the liner tickling my neck as it dangled down.
Check out the channel associated with this video He tears down an E90 headliner to reupholster it. I followed the video for sunroof removal and used 3M spray contact cement (blue spray bottle). Got it all done in 1 evening. |

If you are thinking of DIY, I sourced my fabric from here
http://www.globalupholstery.com It was a PIA to do, since you have to remove much of the interior to get to two bolts near the rear pillar.

Oh shit! I see this thread is old. Is Krozi still around? I remember that dude from back in my 5series.net days (circa 2009-2010)
Small world.

I think this degradation of glue is accelerated when the car is parked in wet areas.
Mine went completely bad after only two months of parking outside during a rainy season. Alcantara headliner DIY coming soon...

Update for mine:
Sun roof liner is holding up after fixing(second pic). Other parts of the roof are starting to show signs of loosening up. The only fix is to completely replace. The underlying adhesive foam deteriorates and looses contact with the liner. It has to be removed and reapplied. I'm sure heat moisture and age are at fault. |

It won't work. i've been down this road, what you are seeing is just the tip of the iceberg. When I removed my liner the entire underside, even in places that looked good was mush.
