2008 idrive update. Anyone done it?

I am having a weird issue with the ipod connector on my 2008.
The dealer suggested i update the software...
$300, but its not a guaranteed to fix my issue (i have the installed glove box ipod controller... ipod recognizes BMW, but no audio).

I dont mind spending the $300, but wanted to know if anyone else has done an update on a 2008 idrive? Can i expect anything else "cool" out of it?

My key dependent settings only let me edit the "power" and "edc" options... so if the updated added more options to that, it would be nice.

dealer is updating the idrive software, it doesn't add any tangible features to the system. I think it's mostly just bug fixes and optimizations...tough call, see if an independent coder has the software he can upload for less than $300....
