I love seeing these cars being driven...

I try and not drive it as much and then I ask myself, " what if you were to die tomorow"

Shortly after, I hope in and redline the v8 all the way to work.

Cheers to another 100,000!

Yeah, you really just don't know what will happen tomorrow....if you own one of these cars, drive it....one day we'll be ride-sharing in electric pods to work and wishing we drove our dino mobiles more often.

....besides, there are many low mileage cars for sale if you ever wanted to "reset" the odometer, but if you have a good one, keep it !

Congrats on the milestone! Impressive run on the original bearings.

Do you take the Southern State all the way out? I always like to hop on the Meadowbrook down to Ocean parkway, then out to Robert Moses causeway. It's a bit out of the way, but a much prettier drive and way less traffic, so travel time ends up being a wash or even a little faster than staying on the Southern all the way.

What is the percentage of Rod Bearings that have failed on E9x M3's?

I am not out there that often, but your route is certainly more scenic. I was on my way home, so it was more of a "let's get off the island before the traffic hits!" LOL

This isnt necessarily the best way to look at it... I would rather know, what percentage of E9x with stock RB will fail at some point during its life. I think that percentage is very high comparably based on all of the failures recorded and reported at various miles... The ticking time bomb post reflects this idea. The % of failures might be 5-7% or something like that (random number for example purposes), but.. that number will gradually GROW. The car has been out of production for 7 years or more, yet we see failures every week, so its a matter of when not if, they will fail. Sure, some cars might go 200K without a problem, but some have gone 20K and spun a bearing.

Every failure since 2013 is slowly increasing the % of RB failures. And now we are reaching an average mileage in the 70-80K mile range, and as they average miles increases, there will steadily be an increase in failures and the % will rise quicker.

It's very low now (we do not have the official BMW numbers)
Most likely your RB will be fine with such high mileage

OP started this post to share his happiness.

Let's not piss on his party by turning this into a full-blown RBs discussion.

Congrats PAMMMV8

I am at 98-99k miles. Replaced the rod bearings in 2014 at 60k miles. I am not a risk taker and risk reduction for me was a day of my time and $600 in parts. Mine were not as bad as some but also not as good as bearing should look at 60k. I agree the odds are with you that you will not suffer a rod bearing related engine failure, but it is a big expense if you do.

Tell that to all the poor sods that have shelled out $15k+ to replace a blown engine.

Honestly there are enough of these s65 cars that you can always find another one. Maybe not in the exact spec you want, but the important part, the engine, is the same in all of these e9x m3s. MT only driver's obviously should have a little bit more concern.

This point of view is wildly blown out of proportion. These cars get smashed on by people and they wonder why shit goes wrong.

I had my bearings replaced at 85k and it honestly didn’t need it. They looked great. This is on a 2011 E90. Hopefully properly warming up the engine and not driving it like a madman makes a difference. I would definitely look into doing it at the 100k number along with the engine mounts for peace of mind.
