racechrono pro + iphone 7plus + ram x-grip mount = not very good
was at njmp lightning this past weekend.
tried to get more data / feedback with this setup: - iphone 7+ running racechrono pro - ram x-grip mount for mounting phone on windshield - obd link MX for recording obd2 data like rpm, throttle etc it works OK. better than no data. but a few problem main problems: 1. the mount is not as solid as many said it is. it flexes around the suction cup or in the arm so videos come out to be very shaky 2. the gps data (location on track, speed, derived g-force etc) are lagged compare to the video... so if i want to look at the video and see what speed i was at during the turn etc it is pretty hopeless 3. the throttle data from obd is not accurate somehow. it's not 0 even when i'm not on throttle, and when i floor it it won't be 100% either... the biggest value that it provides is let keep track of my progress throughout the day (nice to see / good to confirm how lap time improve over the weekend), and allow me to pose braggadocious video on facebook to get likes... but for detailed analysis it is not very useful. i do think the racechrono app is quite well done, it's very easy to use to link up with odb read, auto recognizing track and link up with video etc. what are you guys using for analyzing your laps? i'm just starting as novice so don't want to shell out a whole lot yet, but something that can address above problems would be nice... |

about the video vibration, i just found this thread in the f80 forum
https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1467375 turns out it's the iphone's build in optical image stabilization mess with it and make the video looks like jello... 2 ways to defeat it: - use selfie camera instead it doesn't have OIS, but hard to operate the phone backward also selfie cam has less resolution - stick a piece of magnet behind the camera to stop it's stabilization action. i'm going to buy some magnet and try it. |
