this is how business is run.

you *could* or did? thought so..

because your garage has value, the lights cost money, the electricity costs $, the internet costs $, your laptop costs $. the generator costs money, the jacks cost $, not sure about you but my time has value..

I keep forgetting we live an a country that OPENLY voted for an OPENLY admitted communist and people now *feel* they should get cut breaks because they are * special*

not the shops fault that fools and their $ are soon parted.

"what do you think this will cost me?" would have avoided this scenario.

Definitely name the shop to help the community. Yelp built a business off this. And we have a vendor section on this forum.

Uh, I wrote it pretty clear.

Not sure why you had a brain fart and went off on a weak tangent about your perception of this country instead...

No crap that would have been smart on OP's part, but what kind of shady-sh*t shop doesn't even give someone a written OR verbal estimate. Every shop I go to even says they will give me a written estimate and they all call me before doing anything crazy.

uh, you said you "could" so by that reasoning, i assume your not in the automotive tech field..so you proved my point. You DIDNT do anything

And most shops dont state prices unless asked/it comes up. If a customer, like the OP comes in and says " Hey , I want you to do X Y Z" most shops will say sure, drop it off at X date.. and call you when its ready.. who's at fault... OP

Ive got 3 different engine builds goin on right now, 3 different shops, 3 different cars. guess how many times I asked what it will "cost" 0 ZERO
know why? because I know what the parts cost me, I know what the labor rate is, and I want it done. Guess how many times they told me what it will cost.. you guessed it. Its called be an informed buyer, an intelligent person, hell even just a real car enthusiast. Suck it up and learn to research.. but again, its a BernieBro thing nowadays
