Any packages a "must" on a new M3?
Hey guys, I had posted earlier about trading my 335is for a used e92 M3. I'm now kicking the tires on just ordering an new M from the factory. My question is, are there any packages that you guys would consider a must on the M3, or is the base model good enough? Going with the base would keep me closer to my price-point, but I'd be willing to add an option or two if they are vital enough.
Thanks again |

I just ordered my E92 last week. If you are going to get a 2011 you may want to move quickly. My dealership had trouble getting an allocation. They got one in the end, but said it would have been easier to just order a 2012 when allocation comes out. I didn't feel like waiting.
Packages. I ordered absolutely everything, but moonroof and highbeam assist. Must's for me were Comp Pkg and DCT. Never had a double clutch, but think I'll like it on this one for a while. Anyway, since I still don't understand all of this 2011.5, 2011.75 I have decided to tell everyone I have a 2011.99999999 I think that about sums it up. |

It depends on your intentions for the vehicle. Will it be a daily driver and get lots of use? If so, you are going to want to equip it as such. Is it going to be used for just weekend autocrosses? Then you may just want the competition package. You are the only one that candecide what packages are needed.
I ordered mine with almost every option. I did not get the cold weather package but did get heated seats and I did not get the competition package (kicking myself), but I did get the EDC suspension. Other than that, I got every other option. |

You should get: ZCP, ZCV, DCT, Carbonleather interior. Or you can buy my car, which has all these options coincidently I will post it on the for sale section soon. It only has 5000miles.

Go all out and get everything except the Cold Weather Pkg., but get the heated seats! It's better to have and not use than to not have, then want. Good Luck Bro!

As I'm from NY, I recommend the Anthony Weiner "package."
Seriously, though, it does depend on your needs/goals for the car. If it's going to be a daily driver and your only car, get all the "necessities"--nav, bluetooth, etc. You're in PA, and if you plan on driving in winter, get the cold weather pkg. The competition pkg is nice. The rear window sunshade is a nice option only if you're toting kids around. The enhanced premium sound at $1900 is not a good value--you could do much better for the money aftermarket. And if it's going to be an extra car/fun car/track car, strip it down--cloth seats and 18" wheels! |

Am I the only pussy that thinks the Convenience package is a must? I hate having to take the key out of my pocket for my other cars.

Options I picked are in my sig. Picking up the car in Germany in September.
I optioned out without the navi because I hate the look for the two hump dash. Think the interior looks way more clean without the Navi. I want to keep the car 5+ years and I think once a navigation becomes 5+ years old the interior looks really dated with a navi there. Just look at the e46 M3 navi and non navi interiors. Non navi interior looks much better in this current time in the e46 M3 IMO.

You MUST get the "F**K off" package; It's a combination of:
"Ok Ok I get it you're car is faster" PLUS "See I actually paid for this car, my parents didn't" PLUS "Yep, you're kitchen utensil exhaust is louder than my stock" If you get a DCT they add” I don't give a S**t if my rev matching sound startles you" for free And if you live in Seattle they throw in a bumper sticker "Don't hate, appreciate" Each one of these options alone costs a lot but this package is priceless. I think it’s a must.

The base model is good enough if money it tight. If you have extra, then jot down the option you like in order of importance to you. Pick the option in order until you run out of that extra money. For me, my list in order of importance are:
Premium Package Heated Seat Tech Package NAV DCT EDC Rear PDC Happy shopping. |

I got them all except 19" wheels (already had my aftermarket wheels picked and needed a set for winter driving so ordered 18") and wouldn't want to do without any of them. Competition package wasn't available on the vert.

The guys at BMW are smart. I wanted one item in all of the packages. Guess what, it is only a little bit more to get the whole package than it is to order the one item (the most desireable item is always the most expensive one in the package). I didn't order the cold weather, though like many others I ordered the heated seats. The popup headlight washers are a pain in the rear and unless you drive in the snow a lot they will only make a mess of your car when you go to use your window washer.
Summary of my order (due in August): Comp package Convenience package Premium package2 DCT Heated seats Skipped premium sound since I generally don't listen to my music above a level that would allow conversation in the car anyway. My hearing is already going to the crapper from hunting so I see no reason to speed it along further with music. |

1 of course easy for me to chime in driving a lowly 330
but I would LOVE a base sedan in AW with speed cloth and nothing else...except prob. ind. audio bluetooth. Garage opener if I had a garage, but that's simple to retrofit. |
