Pacific Raceways-9-13!

Headed down to pacific raceways this morning for a full day of advanced lapping with proformance racing. Its been a while since ive been on the track and excited to get back at it. Im up way to early, got up at 4, and finally decided im not gonna be getting back to sleep anytime soon. New mods to the car include the challenge sport xpipe and evolve stage 2 tune, since last time i was on the track. excited to see how i feel about the new set up. im thinking i should be able to tell how it works by my front straight top speed and how easily i reach 140-145, which was about it before on stock tune. i set the top speed limiter as in the past to give me the audible warning when i reach it so i dont have to be paying attention to the speedometer while 6 inches from the wall. A good idea for anyone using the M3 on the track. Just another cool little feature of our cars. i will be running my square set up of ad08s and messing with pressures to hopefully get hot temp pressure of 40lbs. suspension and rest of the car primarily stock aside from rpi scoops and afe pro filter. Have stainless brake lines, motul and a pedal kit on the way shortly maybe for next time on the 26th. sorry no gopro camera to record the day but will take some photos while im out and maybe run into former trackmates who will provide video.

Enjoy! It is not going to be too hot so your brakes should be fine.

from several years of motorcycle track fun I can tell you - the best way to learn to go faster is not to focus on your top speed, or even pay attention to your speed... you'll gain tons of seconds by being slow in fast out of turns.. and there's lots of time to be gained in 3a,3b, 5a,5b, 7,8 .. I had my motorcycle speedometer taped up.. I'm thinking of doing the same thing in the M3 using painters tape.

Analysis of speeds afterwards is fine to do - if you have a data logger.

Thanks good advice. I'm familiar with the track and have been out before. Just working on my skills. There is a cobb tune gtr that runs low 10s in the quarter out here today. said he traps at about 133-135. thats crazy fast.

Had a great day on the track today. got in 210 miles of track time. had one minor off late in the day when my brakes were fading on me but in a safe spot. also got a lot of pad transfer i think by the end, as my steering wheel shook a lot under braking. also a lot of pickup on the front tires from all day of driving. i can tell im faster with the evolve tune and challenge sport mid section. i cant go flat out down the front straight as i would carry too much speed for my comfort for braking going into 2. turned some consistent laps in the 1:47-1:50 range which i thought was decent. there was as said above a cobb tuned gtr, several gt3s, a 2011 gt3rs, a 2011 997tts, a twin turbo z06, and several other turbo porsches and zo6s.

I hate to admit it but after seeing this cobb tuned gtr in action yesterday and seeing the motortrend drag race, I'm in the gtr fan club. As much as I've tried to dislike the car because its a nissan I can't. Its just so brutallly fast with relatively cheap tuning its easily a low 10 second car. Wow.

1:47 is not a bad lap time for M3.

How did you do 200miles? I usually can only do about 100, in for 25 min sessions. So you got probably 2x more track time than BMWCCA/PCA track days? How much this event costs?

It was a full day of advanced lapping with proformance the turn out was low so part way through the day we had one group and could go out as one group. I got in 6 sessions some over 30 minutes long. My best was a 1:46.

Proformance lapping days are great - I do the afternoon lapping days and you can easily get 3.5hrs of track time - well over a tank of gas for the afternoon. For part of the day the track is shared with students who are doing their first HPDE class so you need to practice some restraint; however, there's still ~1.5hrs of track time where students are not on the track (during afternoon lapping days).

Oh, I also recommend having Don take you around the track in the taxi for a few laps. Since the taxi is also an M3 it reduces the variables to just the driver and I learned a lot as a result.
