The connection is probably severed and occasionally reconnects by chance while driving. I had to replace both of mine last year it's easy to replace all you need is a T50 torx to remove seat bolts (do not unplug the seat!) slide it back and remove some screws and the cover and take a look at the wires that are on the subwoofer unit after its unplugged. Mine were severed too far in to be able to solder but if you're lucky they'll be severed close enough to the edge to be able to splice them
