No offense, but the current 5s are the the ugleist BMW has ever done. That's one reason they aren't selling. To the case in point, as others have said, the E46 is dated, but will be a classic. Just said goodbye to mine tonight. Time moves on. I think the E92 is definitely less "Bangled". Again, nothing personal meant re: the M5. Great performing car, and great value for what you paid, but the headlights and bustle are beyond belief, IMO.

When I first saw the E92 M3 in person, back in November, it really impressed me!! So much that I bought one that was miraculously available in the color combo I wanted the following week!!!! Still love the E46 as well though!

I will always favor the styling of the E46 because it wasn't born in the wind tunnel like the E92, the lines still have a little more classic BMW left in them. However the E92 has some equally stunning lines, and the rear bumper is 100x better looking than the E46's.
If given the choice to drive off the lot with either a new E46 M3 (that had been sitting for a while) or a E92, I wouldn't hesitate to say E92. |

i think the e46 m3 has the better back half and the e92 has the better front half.
I would like to cut both cars in half and weld them together to make one. Dont know what id do with the e46 front/e92 rear car eeeekkk yuck. |

Nice comparison shots! I used to be partial to the E46 M3 look, even liked it better than the E92. Bu these pics really do put things into perspective, that there's really no comparison - E92 M3 looks way better. E46 M3 looks dated in comparison.

I own an E46 M3 and can happily say the E92 is the nicer looking car without a doubt Duh! But price is a little ridiculous. I can afford anything under 80K easily but for 70K + it doesnt make me want to go and get one today. Now if there is a CSL variant that becomes available maybe, just maybe but unfortunately it will probably be a 80K + car easily... Oh well Ill just go and get me some new rims.

I still think the lines of the E46 are better than the E92. If you look down by the rocker panels, the E46 is nice and straight while the E92 does a weird turn at the rear. Also the just behind the headlights on the sides, The E92 has a seam that looks odd whereas the E46 is joined to the hood with a complete fender.
Just my observations. I wonder what people would be saying if they both had the same V8 engine. It's really the 414 hp V8 that makes the car. When the next generation M3 comes out with a V10 with 550 hp, will people ignore the E92? Just for the record, I'm getting the E92 M3 and I've had 3 E46 M3's. When you line up all the M3's when the next generation comes out, and someone asks to line them all up according to greatness, I'd be willing to bet it would come out something like this: #1 E30, #2 E46, #3 E92, #4 E36. I've also had the E36 M3/4 |

e46 is more aggressive i feel, The E90 looks like its just more update obviously. Its a tough call, but like most new cars the look will just grow on you, once people start buying and modding peoples decision will change. Although E46 FTW!!!! imo
