i have the same clack sound and didn't really pay attention to it until i read your post

it's definitely from the monoballs since i don't recall having this sound before the monoballs, im assuming it should be normal

No clack here, check your bolts and make sure you torque weighted.

Monoballs aren't supposed to require torquing while weighted, only rubber bushings. But yes, I shall get them checked that they are torqued correctly.

I just installed the GAS monoballs on my car. I purchased the new TRW arms from GAS with the monoballs pre-installed. I also noticed a single clank sound when reversing. Unlike the last couple of posters, I do not have a BBK.

I installed the arms and torqued to 75 ft lbs + 90 degrees with the suspension under load. I'm confused as to why some people here are reporting no noise, but a few of us are experiencing some. What did I do wrong?

I’m curious about this too. Just had the GAS monoballs installed as well. I don’t have a clank when reversing. However I do hear a louder thump when hitting bumps and dips head on at low speeds. If I go at an angle I don’t hear it. I figure this is normal, but just want to be sure. I also have a Stoptech Trophy BBK and full sphericals in the rear as well. The rear is practically silent.

I’ll probably retorque things and inspect my sway bar links to see if they are worn.

I have a buddy running them and he is very happy. He recommended them to me but I did the GAS ones because they were like $100 cheaper. I have to say I’m also very happy with my GAS ones... and now $100 richer than him lol

Hmm I noticed a clunking when I jab the brakes at super slow speed, think E46 checking lower control arm bushings technique.

I haven't found where the source of the noise is yet. Maybe it's this?

I've read that awhile back and a few other thread that OP has made. Very good amount of info there.

I'm running GAS monoballs, but haven't had a chance to check it out.

After having the monoballs for a while, and having multiple people listen to the sound, I think it's just the brake pads shifting. Pretty common on these cars. I think it became more noticeable after the monoballs due to replacing a rubber bushing with a solid one.

I only hear the noise when I hit the brakes for the first time after changing directions and then I never hear it again. So I'm pretty confident that's the brake pads. I think if it was something else with the suspension I'd hear it over bumps and whatnot.

SPL front monoballs aren't sealed. Mine went bad pretty quickly, and had a lot of play by the time I took them off (~6mo or so). For more street driving sealed monoballs or poly seems like the way to go. Food for thought. If you already have them installed I'd just keep an eye out and service them when necessary.
