the next M3 will be a success in my books. I am not expecting miracles. No other manufacturer can perform them either. I'm sure there are similar "wish lists" on Porsche forums, MB forums, and fans complain about this and that about those cars too. Less weight and a smaller package will come from the next M2.

Two things are already set in stone.
The next gen price increase and the longer body.

As previously stated in this thread, the basic characteristics/features of the new M3 are to be no surprise. That being said, do I think it will be a successful car for BMW and the BMW community/buyers? In one word...yes.
Despite the fact that it will most likely have a twin (or tri) turbo 6 cylinder power plant, I still believe that it will have the (insert soul, essence, character, or whatever you like here) that M cars are known for. Sure it will not have a high revving NA power plant that we all know and love, but I believe that BMW will still make it a wonderful car. I mean the 1M has a turbo motor and it is getting great reviews.... Just my $0.02. |

The addition of backup cameras is one option BMW and other car manufacturers will ultimately have no control over due to government mandate. The final ruling of the Cameron Gulbransen Kids Transportation Safety Act is delayed but would and still may require all vehicles to be equipped with backup cameras by 2014. http://news.consumerreports.org/cars...ansen-act.html Last edited by silent06; 08-06-2011 at 02:28 PM.. |

Why does everyone think the m3 is heavy? Geez, get over it. The car is lighter than anything else in it's class, it also feels way lighter than it's actual weight suggests. Hell, I have a 911 carrera and an m3 and can not tell which car handles better even though the Porsche weighs a lot less. The current m3 is remarkable, give it some credit.

I love back up cameras. It's so much easier to park and get out of tight spots.

1. More horsepower and torque.
2. Better, more reliable engine (S65 will be tough to beat) 3. Lighter 4. Better handling & suspension 5. Better manual gearbox (DCT ok also for those of you who can't use your left foot .. just kidding) 6. Better lines than the current M3. 7. More of a sports car, less of a "grand touring" car. Don't get me wrong, I love my current M3, I plan on keeping it and getting the new version a few years into production, once bugs are worked out!!

It has no place on an M car. It's fun and hunky dory on our 11' X5. ///M cars don't need that stuff. We'll probably be seeing a lot of cars on the lots of this tech loaded up with 'great' deals. Unfortunately, that's the future.

I would like stiffer control ie steering, clutch, brake and shifter action in addition to lower weight. Oh and maybe a huge ricey wing. Just kidding

The M3 was never about HP and torque. It was about balance and feedback. It always bested said mustangs and chargers on the track...where it mattered. The competition has caught up...for now.

It sounds like so many of you would be happier in the 1M or the or the M2 if it's a worthy successor.

Back on topic: I wanted to add brakes...better brakes...While the single piston brakes are fine for the street, they can't hold up on the track for long. Better brakes and pads would be nice. |

I do agree, but i'am/was fortunate enough for them to buy me it. And i do appreciate it, ask anyone who has seen my car in person. And i forgot to mention brakes earlier as well.. They need to upgrade that pathetic 1 piston set-up. the 135i brakes look 10x more attractive than an M car.. I'm stunned BMW would do such a thing. |

Since I know they have to please their soccer mom customer base, I have no hope what so ever that they will deliver anything remotely close to what I want. Only thing I can hope is that they will have striped out version.. At least that might be on the low 3000lbs. But then, they will charge 100k for that. So in short, there is nothing they can do to make me want one (forget about buying).

The current m3 is a luxury sports car to me. I give it credit for what it is. A GT cruiser. I do not give it credit like the e30/e36/e46, which created the cult like following of BMW M division. |
