Question for you all: I just got my car back from having the airbag recall done and the front driver cupholder doesn't open automatically anymore. Did this happen to anyone else? BMW of Manhattan...

No issue with mine. And they shouldn't have done anything with the dash for the airbag recall. Either coincidence or the tech was using it for his soda while he was working!

Maybe they did the battery cable recall on your car too. Check your service records.

Think he meant when you push it comes out automagically. I had mine replaced under warranty a year after ownership because it didn't do that!

Got my airbag.
Now waiting on the other recall and hoping my car doesn't burn up in the mean time.

I am in the same boat but have not done it yet. Do you need to drop the car off or can they do it while you wait at BMW Manhattan?

I work nearby so didn't think to ask. I would guess at least 2-3hrs.

I left mine for whole day.

It took them less than an hour to do each of mine. Some members have made similar statements. The question is, how long until they actually pull it into the bay and then start working on it. Speak to your SA and let her or him know that you will be waiting and have time constraints. I'm sure they will be happy to oblige. Also, FlyingAce has a thread where he's keeping track of air bags being completed. He's looking for members to update his thread with some info. If you guys are not aware I'll edit and post it here.

Thanks yeah i dropped car off at 8am and they called me 430 to say it was ready but they knew I was coming by tonight so prob didn't rush!

Now key question is whether they saw the big Do Not Wash sign on the car. Last time they washed it anyways and messed up my tow hook front plate....

Got Both Recalls

I took my X1 in today for both of the recalls.
They installed the new Battery Cable and also installed the new Airbag.

Picked the car up and it was clean and sparkly inside and out and all is well . Happy camper now.

I had my airbag replaced on Tuesday. I waited in the dealer showroom and it took only 55 minutes.

Once engine was warmed ...it was gulping the 40 degree air and loving it
