A new owner of 2009 e90. Wonder if I get something in the mail from BMW (like I did with my old e92 and the airbag) or if I should be proactive and attempt to schedule the recall for this?

From what I was told by the dealer, there is a short harness and a long harness. If there is damage to the long harness then they replace the entire thing. If there is no damage they will replace the short harness regardless.
That's the same explanation I got here on the East coast, had mine replaced with the short harness. Looked just fine, but they replaced it anyway as a precaution, regardless how it looks.

Hi guys reading though and it was brought up earlier in the post but not really answered. I have my car booked for the two recalls we need Airbag or blower etc.. I’m in Canada. Anyhow my question and concern is I have my car coded , no seatbelt chime and various other items. Main one is the GTS tranny flash. That’s solidly set in the ecu is it not? Having this recall done won’t reset all my coding will it?

Nope, all my coding remained unchanged after my recalls we completed by the dealer.

Go to the bmw recall website below. Put in your VIN and it will give you all the open recalls you have on your vehicle and status. If it shows available then call and schedule.

That did it! Thanks! Also allowed me to look at build specs and noticed I don't have folding rear seats in my sedan 😭

I just got my recall for my e91 finished today...it took San Diego BMW 2 days to do it, refused to wash my car because it had a roof rack, and they offered me a hertz rental, not even a BMW. Staff was also rude and unhelpful. This is why I prefer independent shops like Euro Auto Spot so much more.

There is definite truth in that. I also own a Honda and it's night and day how Honda handles recalls versus BMW, as well as repairs. I think BMW is injecting much less money into american dealerships for training and does a poor job at getting the know-how on fixing their cars to american counterparts. I think the communication link between germany and usa is not working as well as between Japan and USA. The Japanese are simpler, thorough and clearer and leave no doubt in procedures for the mechanics to perform work on their cars.

At least for now my 2013 M3 is not affected by either the battery cable or the blower cable recalls . Or bmw is playing hide the mess where they only alert owners in chronological orders to spread out and reduce their cost.

Search YT for BMW owners with crispy wires at the blower motor under the glove box.

This video shows the short harness and plug they install regardless. It adds a ground wire to prevent any internal shorts and potential future fires. The "controller" I think is actually a resistor. Saves BMW the cost of replacing the entire blower motor. BMW might add some insulation and extra electric tape to protect the harness. 1 hr labor.

Easy to check under the glove box, if your wires are brown and there is a potential for fire. Two a T20s.

If BMW finds that you have severe wire harness damage beyond the blower motor plug, they might have to disassemble the dash and fix the harness, taking several days or longer.

There is now a PCV heater wiring recall added on to the blower motor recall. PCV is way in the back of the engine and hard to reach.

Cheers

If it's the same one on the on the back of the block I will gladly have BMW fix it for free. The starter R&R kicked my ass, I can only imagine how I'd do with the PCV valve.

Angry

Does anyone know if the blower motor assembly and wiring harness are the same throughout model year’s 2006-2013 3 series including M3? The reason I’m asking is my 2013 M3 burnt up October 31, 2020 and was a complete loss. The day after my M3 burnt up I googled BMW fires because I couldn’t understand why it caught fire in the first place. Car’s don’t just catch fire for no reason. This is how I learned of the recall for the blower motor wiring melting and possibly causing a fire. But for some reason model year’s 2012-2013 were not included in the recall. To this day I don’t understand why these model year’s were left out of this recall. Had they been included I would have been notified of this fire risk and would have taken the appropriate action to have it repaired. The recall was issued in October 2017 three year’s prior to my 2013 M3 burning up! I’m beside myself and I hold BMW North America responsible for neglecting to include my model year in such an important recall.
