Hawk HPS pads and a few questions...

Hey guys,

I got notice today that I need to flush the brake fluid in the car. The brake pads still have some life to go but I was looking at replacing the pads while I am there. Ive used HPS pads in the past for a few track days (driving schools) and mostly street driving on other vehicles. Is this still a good option for stock calipers?

As Ill be changing out the fluid, I was looking at the Motul 600 fluid. How much fluid does it take to do a proper fluid change?

Thanks for the help in advance.

well, I went a head and ordered them from FCP Euro. In digging around it looks like 1L will be able to get the flush done. After I ordered it looks like Castrol has a better option. I will just have to flush my lines a bit more it seems.

As for the pads Ive ran them before. On some HPDE events. Ill try again and report back. Maybe upgrade them to a BBK sometime down the line as I dont do that many track events and this will be my first in this car.

For what it's worth (future searches etc), I have recently compared OEM and Stoptech Street and Hawk HPS 5.0 on my M3 and wife's X3. While I am running the Stoptech Street currently, I don't like it as much for initial bite and cold performance as what I remember from my Hawk Street 5.0. Then I took the OEM off the X3 and put Hawk 5.0 instead, and I loved it again.
Conclusion: I will continue with what I have, but when they're done it's definitely Hawk Street 5.0 again on all my cars.

I have been running this setup for a few weeks now and its been a great little upgrade. The Hawk HPS pads have very little brake dust compared to the OEM pads. They seem to do much better on braking as well. The power bleeder made changing fluid super easy. And would suggest this to anyone looking for a little more from their stock brakes with out breaking the bank doing so.

Thanks for the post! I just ordered HPS 5.0 for my e90, can't wait to get them on since I've only heard good things about them.

Is it recommended that I flush my brake fluid when putting in the new pads? My last flush was about a year ago.

Honestly since you are there why not. Having that pressure bleeder sure made it super easy to do.
