Hey Fellas,

Does anyone know how to code a used steering wheel clock spring to the car?

airbags dont get coded, if the bag popped from a crash there will be crash data stored in the module and the module can be cleared two times of such data.

Thanks for the feedback. I installed the Electronic Performance steering wheel (shift lights) and now im getting the oassenger restrsints fault on the dash (and airbag light).

I looked at the connections on the unit and saw they were bent... so i bought a used airbag from ebay as well as connectors (to make sure the plastic connector covers arent broken). Still didnt fix it. The service techs from bmw said i need to code the airbag to the car, but they can only code a brand new one.

So they said i need a program to do a used one. Im hoping this is the issue as i havent touch anything else. Thoughts?

if the ignition was turned on with the airbag disconnected you just need to reset the codes from the airbag module.

As amrazM said, you likely just need to clear the airbag codes. This can be done via INPA.

I did an F83 seat conversion in my E93. During the install process, any time I'd disconnect the seat airbag (yellow plugs), I'd have to clear the airbag module via INPA. Just doing a general code clearing didn't do the trick, there was a specific area within INPA to clear the airbag code if I recall correctly.

There is absolutely no coding or programming of an airbag. I’ve no joke probably replaced over 1000 from recalls over the years. You’re warning light is likely due to installation error. The “bridge” on the airbag connectors must be open, then connector must be fully inserted into the airbag and then and only then close the bridge on the connector. If not done that way you will get an airbag light every time and it won’t clear until you disconnect it and reinstall properly.

Appreciate it!

I mispoke earlier. I guess its not the airbag, but the replacement clock spring. Im told that needs to be coded (bought used).

Yes the SZL/steering column switch cluster does need coding.

Understood. Is there someone that can do that?

Same issue here.
2006 325i.
Clock spring replaced.
Airbag light remains (93B4 only).

Did you figure it out?
Does it need coding?

SOLVED - 93B4 (despite replacing clock spring)

I finally cleared my stubborn 93B4 today, here was my journey:
  1. Replaced clock spring with used unit - 93B4 persists.
  2. Replaced clock spring with new unit - 93B4 persists.
  3. Replaced MRS module with used unit - 93B4 cleared, 93B5 and 93B6 appeared and won't clear.
  4. Replaced MRS module with another used unit - all error codes cleared!
My horn was working when I started so I think the clock spring was always OK.

Conclusions:
  1. I think these MRS modules may internally malfunction / store crash data resulting in unclearable error codes e.g. 93B4, 93B5, 93B6; I think that is what happened with my original MRS module.
  2. I think that the first used MRS module replacement I ordered (above Step 3) also had an internal malfunction / stored crash data resulting in unclearable 93B5 and 93B6 error codes.
  3. The second used MRS module replacement I ordered (above Step 4) I think did not have any error codes stored.
I hope this helps someone!
